Rays outfielder Matt Joyce batted leadoff with Desmond Jennings getting a rest Friday against Chicago. Manager Joe Maddon moved Joyce atop the order to help get his slumping bat going.

Apparently, it worked for the right fielder. Joyce had a solo homer in the third inning off Jake Peavy, his third of the year. He went 2 for 5 with two RBI.

Joyce is hitting .203 but has gone 5 for 21 (.238) over his last seven games with two homers and three RBI.
