Happy 50th birthday to perhaps the greatest athlete we've ever seen -- Bo Jackson.
Yes, Bo knows 50. For many of us, that makes us feel incredibly old. While we always hear about how much better athletes are today, Jackson is the guy I'll always tell my daughter about.
That throw to get Harold Reynolds is still one of the best I've ever seen. And then there's the leadoff homer in the 1989 All-Star Game.
Jackson's statistics aren't great -- he was a career .250/.309/.474 hitter with 141 home runs over parts of eight seasons with the Royals, White Sox and Angels. His best season was either 1989 when he hit 32 homers and drove in 107 in 135 games while hitting .256/.310/.495 or 1990 when he hit .272/.342/.523 with 28 home runs in 111 games. It's obvious he was getting better at baseball and the sky was the limit to someone with his talent and skill. Jackson remains one of the game's great "what ifs" -- as in, what if he never had his "hobby" of professional football?
Friday is also the 25th anniversary of perhaps Jackson's best game in the NFL. On his 25th birthday, Jackson ran 18 times for 221 yards and two touchdowns (and a receiving touchdown) in a Monday Night Football victory against the Seattle Seahawks. It was just the fifth game of his NFL career.
And just because you can never spend too much time on YouTube watching videos of Bo, here's another compilation.
