Darwin Barney is nearing a rehab assignment as he heals from a laceration on his left knee, MLB.com reports.
Barney is expected to get his stitches removed Monday. If everything goes as planned, Barney will begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Kane County this week. Barney is eligible to come off the disabled list on April 15. He's expected to resume his role as the Cubs' starting second baseman as soon as he's healthy.
