Diamondbacks pitcher J.J. Putz has retired and joined the team's front office, according to USA Today.

Putz was designated for assignment by the club in June, and did not catch on with anyone else. The 37-year-old played 12 years in the majors, compiling a 3.08 ERA over 566 2/3 innings. He saved 189 games.
