Athletics pitcher Ryan Cook earned his first save of the year Sunday, giving up just one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings and striking out two to finish off his team's 4-3 win over the Marlins.
Rather than use closer Sean Doolittle for three straight games after he blew a save opportunity Saturday, manager Bob Melvin stuck with Cook, who gave up a leadoff single in the ninth after recording the final out of the eighth but didn't allow any further damage. Cook owns a 3.91 ERA and 25:15 K:BB ratio in 23 innings, and any further save opportunities will likely be few and far between.
