Dodgers' Anthony Garcia: Dealing with groin tightness
Garcia was held out of the Dodgers' intrasquad game Sunday due to a tight groin muscle, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Garcia hit a home run in intrasquad action Friday but was pulled Sunday after reporting the groin issue. The 28-year-old is unlikely to see much, if any, major-league playing time this season.

Dodgers' Anthony Garcia: Part of player pool
Garcia was added to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
The 28-year-old has spent 11 seasons as a professional but has yet to make his big-league debut. In parts of five seasons at the Triple-A level, he's hit a respectable .253/.342/.443.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Outrighted to Triple-A
Garcia cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A earlier in the week.
Garcia was added to the 40-man roster after an impressive second-half stint with Memphis in 2016, though his rough start to 2017 (.162/.225/.270 with one homer through 13 games) likely contributed to his departure from the 40-man. A corresponding roster move hasn't been announced yet.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Optioned to Triple-A
Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
Garcia, who was competing for a reserve role in the outfield, didn't do much to distinguish himself in camp, going 6-for-24 with a pair of homers in Grapefruit League games. The 25-year-old should be in line for everyday at-bats with Memphis, but may need an injury to hit one of the outfielders on the big club before he receives his first promotion to the majors.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Launches first homer of spring
Garcia blasted a solo home run in his only at-bat during Thursday's 9-4 Grapefruit League win over the Braves.
The 25-year-old outfielder blasted his first round-tripper of spring when he took Jose Ramirez deep to left to round out the scoring on the day. Garcia had somewhat of a rough go of it at the plate in Triple-A Memphis last season, slashing .229/.296/.394 with eight homers and 27 RBI in 247 plate appearances. However, his .253 BABIP over that stretch indicates at least a degree of misfortune, which helped lead to what was Garcia's lowest batting average since 2014 at High-A Palm Beach. Factoring in Tuesday's production, Garcia is hitting .286 with Thursday's homer and four RBI overall in seven at-bats while seeing action in all six of the Cardinals' games.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Sees batting average plummet
Garcia has a .192/.281/.336 line after playing 38 games at Triple-A Memphis.
After increasing his batting average for three straight seasons, Garcia's decline in performance at the plate is particularly concerning. He started the season by getting a hit in six of the first seven games, but proceeded to enter a slump that has yet to end, and has just 17 hits in the following 101 at-bats. When the 2016 campaign began, the chances were slim that Garcia would see time in the majors, and his performance thus far has made a call-up even more unlikely.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Sent to Triple-A
Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Garcia was added to the 40-man roster in November in an effort to protect him from Rule 5 eligibility, as he wasn't expected to make the Opening Day roster this season. The Cardinals have a strong mix of veterans and young up-and-comers in their outfield in 2016, so barring any injuries, the 24-year-old Garcia will likely spend the majority of the season developing in the minors.

Cardinals' Anthony Garcia: Promoted to 40-man roster
Garcia was promoted to the 40-man roster Thursday.
This move isn't necessarily a precursor to Garcia joining the Cardinals this season. In all likelihood, St. Louis promoted the 23-year-old in an attempt to protect him from a potential selection in the upcoming Rule 5 draft, however he should at least get an invite to spring training this season and could work his way to the majors if the Cardinals run into multiple injuries in the outfield.
