Top Chad Girodo News

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Sent to minor-league camp

Girodo was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.

The side-arming southpaw notched a 2.08 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 8.2 innings this spring, so he could be an option if the big-league club needs to add a lefty to the bullpen this season.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Outrighted to Triple-A

Girodo was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The southpaw will remain with the organization after being removed from the 40-man roster. He will still get to attend major league camp for spring training, but Girodo will face long odds to earn his spot back with lefties J.P. Howell, Aaron Loup and Matt Dermody all ahead of him in the bullpen hierarchy.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Designated for assignment

Girodo was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Thursday, Blue Jays radio broadcaster Mike Wilner reports.

The move clears room on the roster for J.P. Howell, whom the Blue Jays recently inked to a deal. The 26-year-old failed to capitalize in his limited major league opportunities last season, posting a 4.35 ERA with a 5:2 K:BB ratio across 10.1 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Muddles through 2016 season

Girodo, the Jays No. 25 prospect, finished the 2016 International League season with a 3.79 ERA over 35.2 innings in 29 relief appearances.

Girodo was recalled a few times this season, but failed to capitalize on his major league opportunities. He earned those chances based on a stellar start with Triple-A Buffalo -- he posted a 1.50 ERA prior to the IL All-Star game. However, it was a different story in the second half as Girodo earned a 6.11 ERA with a .342 BAA after the break. With the Jays' bullpen healthy and performing better than they were earlier in the year, Girodo was not invited back up once rosters expanded last week.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Will be sent to Triple-A

Girodo was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Girodo failed to do his job in his last appearance, allowing a hit to the only batter he faced, who ultimately came around to score. The outing likely played into the decision to swap him out for right-handed pitcher Ryan Tepera, who will take his spot on the 25-man roster and in the bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Called up to Toronto

Girodo was called up by the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.

Girodo will come up to provide a fresh arm to the Blue Jays' bullpen. He has been fantastic with Triple-A Buffalo this year, posting a 1.93 ERA, but he may continue riding the shuttle for the foreseeable future.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Optioned to Triple-A Wednesday

Giordo was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Giordo was decent in his short 11-game stint with the Blue Jays, posting a 4.32 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in just over eight innings. The 25-year-old will return to Triple-A until he is needed at the big league level again.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Girodo: Recalled from Triple-A Buffalo

The Blue Jays recalled Girodo from Triple-A Buffalo following Tuesday's game, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.

Girodo was called up to add another left-handed reliever to the Blue Jays' bullpen. He appeared in a game for the big club earlier this season and allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings. He figures to pitch situationally in middle relief.
