Collins was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. A career .185/.295/.327 with poor defense behind the plate, Collins was always a long shot to break camp in the big leagues. With catcher of the future Bo Naylor waiting for his chance at the Triple-A level, it's hard to see a path for consistent at-bats in Cleveland for Collins.... See More ... See Less

Guardians' Zack Collins: Inks MiLB deal with Cleveland
Collins signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Guardians which includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Collins struggled to a .155/.231/.320 batting line in 36 major-league games last season between the Blue Jays and Pirates. The 28-year-old catcher seems unlikely to make the Cleveland's Opening Day roster since he sits firmly behind Mike Zunino and Bo Naylor on the depth chart.... See More ... See Less -
Zack Collins: Parts ways with Pittsburgh
Collins rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis and elected free agency Thursday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. Collins was claimed off waivers by the Pirates in September but won't stick with the team through the offseason. He played in 36 games between Toronto and Pittsburgh last season and had a .155/.231/.320 slash line with four home runs and 11 RBI in 108 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Lands on injured list
Collins was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a non-COVID-19 illness, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. Collins was held out of the lineup the past couple days and will now miss the closing stretch of the season due to the ailment. The 27-year-old finishes 2022 with a .155/.231/.320 slash line, four home runs and 11 RBI in 36 games between the Pirates and Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Sitting out Friday
Collins isn't starting Friday against the Cardinals. After being held hitless in his last 20 at-bats, Collins will retreat to the bench for the second straight game. Ben Gamel will take his place at first base and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Retreats to bench
Collins isn't starting Wednesday against Cincinnati. Collins has been in the lineup for six of the last seven games, but he's gone 0-for-20 with a run, an RBI, three walks and eight strikeouts during that time. Ben Gamel will take over at first base and bat cleanup Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Getting steady playing time
Collins will start at first base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Reds. Since his Sept. 13 call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis, Collins has settled into a strong-side platoon role at first base for the Pirates. The results haven't been particularly encouraging, however; Collins is off to a 1-for-19 start to his time in Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Added to big-league roster
Collins was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday. Collins was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Sept. 7, and he will join the big club less than a week later. He primarily plays behind the plate, but with two other catchers on the roster, he could see action at first base and as the designated hitter from time to time.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Zack Collins: Catches on with Bucs
The Pirates claimed Collins off waivers from the Blue Jays and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. Collins joins his third organization after the White Sox previously shipped him to Toronto shortly before Opening Day. With Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk ahead of him in the pecking order at catcher in Toronto, Collins wasn't able to carve out consistent playing time, as he saw action in 26 games with the big club while slashing .194/.266/.417 in 79 plate appearances. Though Collins will report to Triple-A as he joins his new organization, the Pirates could give him a look at the big-league level before long. Neither of the two catchers on the 28-man active roster -- Jason Delay and Tyler Heineman -- profile as long-term solutions at the position.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Cast off 40-man roster
Collins was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Monday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Collins was sent to the minors in early August and will lose his spot not he 40-man roster just over a month later. It's possible that he'll remain in the organization if he clears waivers.... Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Optioned to Triple-A
Collins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Collins spent over a month on the major-league roster but appeared in just four games and went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts. He'll head back to the minors with the Blue Jays activating their recent trade acquisitions.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Returns to majors
Collins was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Collins has spent the past couple weeks in the minors but will join Toronto after Alejandro Kirk suffered a bruised left hand Friday. Kirk is in the lineup Saturday as the designated hitter, but Collins will provide depth at catcher behind Gabriel Moreno.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Optioned to Triple-A
Collins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Collins was called up from Buffalo earlier in the week, but he will head back to Buffalo with top prospect Gabriel Moreno ready to join the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Slugs fourth homer
Collins went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals. Making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Collins took Brady Singer deep in the third inning for his fourth homer in only 73 big-league plate appearances this season. The 27-year-old's .212/.288/.455 slash line is less impressive, however, and playing time could be hard for him to come by with top prospect Gabriel Moreno also set to join the Blue Jays this weekend -- assuming Collins isn't the player optioned back down to make room.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Joins active roster
Collins was called up by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Collins appeared in 20 games earlier in the year, showing a bit of power but not much else, as he hit .194/.278/.387 while striking out 40.6 percent of the time. With Danny Jansen out with a broken hand, Collins will return to serve as Alejandro Kirk's backup behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Optioned to Triple-A
Collins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday. He was in a three-way committee at catcher with the big-league club, but he had been losing playing time since Danny Jansen returned from the injured list May 14. Across 69 plate appearances, Collins hit .194/.275/.387 with 40.6 percent strikeout rate. Julian Merryweather was recalled in the corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Sits for third straight game
Collins remains on the bench for the third straight game Tuesday against the Yankees. Collins has had a regular role at times this season but may be falling out of favor. He still owns a 115 wRC+ through 15 games, the product of a .222/.288/.444 slash line, but his 39.0 percent strikeout rate casts doubt on how long he'll be able to remain effective. Alejandro Kirk will be the designated hitter Tuesday, with Tyler Heineman starting behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Takes seat Sunday
Collins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. Collins will sit for the second game in a row after he was on the bench for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with Cleveland. He'll continue to pick up work behind the plate on the days top backstop Alejandro Kirk gets a breather, but Collins' opportunities to make starts at designated hitter could take a hit following Teoscar Hernandez's recent return from the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Not starting nightcap
Collins isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians. Collins started behind the plate in the first game of the twin bill and went 0-for-3 with a run, two walks and a strikeout. Alejandro Kirk will start at catcher while George Springer serves as the designated hitter in Saturday's matinee.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Zack Collins: Out of lineup against lefty
Collins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Southpaw Nestor Cortes is on the hill for the Yankees, so the lefty-hitting Collins will unsurprisingly bow out of the starting nine. George Springer will get a turn as the Blue Jays' designated hitter in place of Collins.... See More ... See Less
