  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Racks up three hits Monday

Santander went 3-for-4 with a double in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Guardians. Santander had over half of the Orioles' five hits as they struggled against Logan Allen and two relievers. This was Santander's second three-hit effort in his last four games, and he's looking no worse for wear after missing Saturday's game with elbow soreness. The veteran outfielder continues to see a near-everyday role between right field and designated hitter. He's slashing .269/.350/.468 with eight home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, 13 doubles and a stolen base through 50 contests.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Santander wasn't available for Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers due to left elbow soreness, but Santander will start in right field and bat fourth in Sunday's series finale, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. The one-day respite was apparently enough for Santander to move past the elbow issue. Ryan McKenna will move back to the bench Sunday to clear a spot in the outfield for Santander.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Records first steal

Santander went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Pirates. Santander struggled in this weekend's series versus the Pirates, going 1-for-9 with two walks and two strikeouts over three games. He was able to pick up his first steal of the season Sunday. He's never had more than one theft in a season, and he's never attempted more than three steals, so the outfielder shouldn't be counted on for speed. He's hit fairly well on the year, batting .255 with a .772 OPS, five home runs, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored and 12 doubles through 37 contests.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Hits monster long ball

Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 7-4 victory over Detroit. In his last 21 games, Santander has recorded multiple hits just once, while Thursday's homer was just his second on the year. • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Goes yard Saturday

Santander went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the White Sox. The homer was Santander's first of the season. The outfielder has struggled early on, and a lot of that comes from a lack of making contact -- he's batting .189 with an elevated 33.9 percent strikeout rate. He typically won't carry an outstanding average, but he hasn't hit lower than .240 over the last four seasons. Santander has picked up five RBI, three runs scored and four doubles, and he continues to hit in the heart of the Orioles' order.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Out again Thursday

Santander (back) remains out of the Orioles' lineup Thursday. Santander didn't play Wednesday because of a sore back and will sit out Thursday's afternoon game, as well. The injury is considered minor, so he should have a good chance to return sometime over the weekend.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Absent from lineup

Santander is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics due to a sore back, Jake Rill of MLB.com. Manager Brandon Hyde said the injury is "not a huge deal," so it's safe to say Santander is day-to-day. Santander is sitting on a .544 OPS for the season and has a 42.3 percent strikeout rate over his last six games, so it's probably a good time to get him a breather. Adam Frazier will pick up a start in the outfield in place of Santander on Wednesday.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Has manager's trust at first

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Friday that he is "very comfortable" with using Santander at first base, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reports. Santander has primarily been an outfielder throughout his career, but he's received a look at first base during spring training. With Ryan Mountcastle around, Santander would likely need an injury to get a lot of time in the infield. The 28-year-old has gone just 2-for-17 across eight Grapefruit League games, but he was excellent for Venezuela at the World Baseball Classic, hitting .353 over five contests. Regardless of where he plays, he should hit in the heart of the O's batting order.
