  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Returns to action Saturday

Cowser (quadriceps) went 2-for-3 with two RBI in his return to action Saturday versus Triple-A Gwinnett after being activated from Triple-A Norfolk's 7-day injured list. Cowser missed a little over two weeks with quad discomfort. The outfielder picked up right where he left off, and if he can keep producing at a high level, he could get the call to Baltimore at some point this summer.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Likely back soon at Triple-A

Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Friday that Cowser (quad) should be back with Triple-A Norfolk fairly soon, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. Cowser was placed on the Triple-A injured list last weekend due to lingering quad discomfort, but Elias called it a "days not weeks" type of issue. The 23-year-old top outfield prospect has delivered a robust .331/.469/.554 slash line with seven homers and five steals through 37 games this season for Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Placed on minor-league IL

Cowser (quadriceps) was placed on the 7-day injured list Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Cowser has been dealing with some quadriceps discomfort and will now be unavailable for at least another week. The 2021 first-round pick has been red-hot this season, batting .331 with seven homers, 28 RBI, 43 runs and five stolen bases over 139 at-bats in 37 games with Triple-A Norfolk. Once healthy, Cowser has a realistic shot at making his MLB debut at some point this summer.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Dealing with quad tightness

Cowser missed Triple-A Norfolk's game Wednesday with left quadriceps tightness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Cowser is considered day-to-day, but the Orioles will likely take a cautious approach with one of their top prospects. He has crushed Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .331/.469/.554 slash line with seven home runs, 28 RBI, 43 runs scored and five stolen bases in 37 contests. If the injury is minor, he could be back by the weekend.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Strong showing at Triple-A

Cowser is slashing .289/.407/.474 with three home runs, two steals, a 24.2 percent strikeout rate and a 15.4 percent walk rate through 91 plate appearances for Triple-A Norfolk. The 23-year-old center fielder has been excellent in a return trip to the International League. He has been 31 percent better than league average and his .407 OBP is the 12th best mark in the league among hitters under 25 years old. Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays have earned their big-league playing time in the early going, but Anthony Santander (-0.2 fWAR), Terrin Vavra (-0.1 fWAR) and Ryan McKenna (-0.1 fWAR) have struggled out of the gate. Even if the Orioles look to Triple-A for an upgrade in the outfield, Kyle Stowers would likely get the call over Cowser, but Cowser is still on the right track to get a call later this summer.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Cowser was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Orioles on Wednesday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Cowser was always likely to begin the season in the minors, as the 2020 first-round selection will be able to get everyday playing time with Triple-A Norfolk. The 23-year-old only hit .212 in 46 Grapefruit League plate appearances before the demotion, but he did get on base at a .435 clip and contributed three homers in his 20 spring games. Cowser is very likely to make his MLB debut at some point in the 2023 season.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Finishes hot in Triple-A

Cowser got off to a cold start in Triple-A following his late-season promotion, but he recovered to bat .299/.390/.582 with four home runs over his last 17 games. Cowser posted a relatively modest .225/.342/.441 batting line in Triple-A overall after absolutely rocking Double-A (.341/.469/.568), but that was weighed down heavily by his struggles over his first nine games following the promotion. After striking out 21 times in his first 35 at-bats following the promotion (a 48.8 percent rate), Cowser slashed that clip to a far more respectable 20.8 percent over those final 17 games. Overall, he hit .278/.406/.469 with 19 homers, 18 steals and a 94:174 BB:K over 138 games across three levels in 2022. Assuming he can keep his strikeouts in check, Cowser will certainly be on the radar for a 2023 promotion to the big club.
