  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Transferred to 60-day IL

Stone (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Stone was already expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 regular season, and his move to the 60-day IL opens up a spot for Edgardo Henriquez on the 40-man roster. Stone is still working his way back from right shoulder inflammation, and he'll now be unavailable for the postseason.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Not expected back this season

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that it's "very unlikely" Stone (shoulder) will return from the 15-day injured list this season, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Stone had been scheduled to begin a throwing program this past weekend, but that didn't happen, as he's yet to pick up a ball due to continued soreness in his right shoulder. The right-hander has missed all of September with shoulder inflammation. Stone's continued absence is yet another blow to a Dodgers rotation that's been decimated by injuries.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Set to start throwing program

Stone (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing program this weekend, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Stone landed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 6 due to right shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers' rotation is short-handed with Clayton Kershaw (toe) and Tyler Glasnow (elbow) also on the IL, but Stone at least has taken a step in the right direction with the playoffs just around the corner. Stone has an 11-5 record across 25 starts this season with a 3.53 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 140.1 innings.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Lands on IL with shoulder injury

The Dodgers placed Stone on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers' rotation has taken another blow with Stone set to miss at least the next two weeks. The 25-year-old right-hander last pitched Saturday against the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings in a no-decision. Stone felt discomfort after that start, and it's unclear whether he will return this season, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. For the season, Stone is 11-5 over 25 starts with a 3.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 116:37 K:BB across 140.1 innings. Justin Wrobleski was recalled by the Dodgers from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move, and he will likely start Saturday against the Guardians in Stone's place.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Can't get through five frames

Stone did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out two. After surrendering a leadoff homer to Kyle Schwarber to open the contest, Stone managed to keep the Phillies off the scoreboard over the next three innings. However, the right-hander began to struggle in the fifth, giving up hits to two of the first three batters he faced before eventually being relieved by Alex Vesia with two outs in the frame. It marked the second start in a row in which Stone was unable to make it through five innings, and he's now surrendered at least three runs in three straight outings. Stone has also coughed up at least one home run in six consecutive starts, posting a 19:7 K:BB over that stretch.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Allows five runs in loss

Stone (9-5) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over four-plus innings to take the loss Friday versus the Athletics. Stone gave up multiple home runs for the second start in a row, as Shea Langeliers and Seth Brown each took him deep for solo shots in the fourth inning. Stone stayed in for the fifth, but he couldn't get an out, and Joe Kelly also allowed an inherited runner to score on a two-run home run by Brent Rooker. This was the fourth time in five outings that Stone has given up at least four runs. He now has a 3.63 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 87:31 K:BB across 111.2 innings through 20 starts this year. Walker Buehler (hip) will require another rehab start, so Stone is likely to get at least one more turn through the rotation, which is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Phillies. With River Ryan pitching well in his first stint in the majors, Stone's place in the rotation over the remainder of August is up in the air.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Gets little help in loss

Stone (9-4) took the loss Friday as the Dodgers fell 5-0 to the Astros, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. The Los Angeles offense couldn't get anything going against Framber Valdez and the Houston bullpen, but Stone didn't help his cause by serving up long balls to Alex Bregman and Jon Singleton. The right-hander managed to last six innings for the first time in four July starts, but his 6.27 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB through 18.2 innings on the month are still rough. His spot in the rotation is safe for now, but once Walker Buehler (hip) is ready to return, Stone could be fighting for one job with River Ryan and Justin Wrobleski, and that's before considering any trade deadline additions for the team. Stone is scheduled to make his next start on the road next weekend in Oakland.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Lasts only three innings

Stone did not factor into the decision in a loss to Arizona on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over three innings while striking out three. Stone battled with Arizona's lineup from the jump, allowing three of the first four batters to reach in the opening frame before allowing another three baserunners in the second. He then surrendered three runs on four hits in the third, including a two-run homer off the bat of Gabriel Moreno as the Diamondbacks evened the score at 4-4. The right-hander would not return for the fourth after needing 77 pitches to get through three frames, marking his shortest outing since April 7 against the Cubs. Stone had gone at least five innings in 11 consecutive starts coming in, though he's now walked multiple batters in five of his last six.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Hurls complete-game shutout

Stone (9-2) picked up the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing four hits and no walks in a complete-game shutout while striking out seven. Stone was spectacular Wednesday, matching his season high with seven strikeouts en route to recording the first complete game of his major-league career. The right-hander retired the side in order in five of his nine frames and didn't allow a runner to reach second base outside of a leadoff double from Gavin Sheets to open the second. Stone has now won each of his last five decisions (spanning six starts) and has also posted at least six strikeouts in five of his last six outings. Furthermore, Wednesday marked the first time that he didn't walk a batter in his last five starts.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Turns in quality start

Stone allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Royals on Friday. Stone's three-start winning streak was snapped, but he picked up his first quality start over three outings in June. The right-hander has been steady this year -- this was just the fourth time in 13 starts he's given up three or more runs. He's now at a 3.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 56:23 K:BB over 74.2 innings. Stone is projected to make his next start at Colorado.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Blanks Mets for fifth win

Stone (5-2) picked up the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter. The 25-year-old righty delivered his best performance of the season, firing 63 of 87 pitches for strikes in his sixth quality start of the year. Stone's seven Ks were a season high, and he'll take a 3.16 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB through 57 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Rockies.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Strikes out five in no-decision

Stone did not factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out five. Stone held up well against a tough Atlanta lineup, generating 14 whiffs and five punchouts. His only blemish on the evening was a 449-foot solo shot by Austin Riley in the first inning. Stone has made four straight starts in which he's allowed two or fewer runs, tossing a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings over that span. The Dodgers right-hander is slated to make his next start against the Marlins at home.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Goes seven innings in second win

Stone (2-1) earned the win Friday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out two. Stone was impressive Friday, holding Toronto to one run on Danny Jansen's fourth-inning homer while the Dodgers' offense provided plenty of support in an eventual 12-2 victory. The 25-year-old right-hander has held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, lowering his ERA to 4.68 with a 1.44 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across five starts (25 innings) this season. Stone's currently slated for a tough home matchup versus Atlanta in his next outing.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Early exit in no-decision

Stone came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Mets, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out only one. The 25-year-old right-hander needed 72 pitches to record 10 outs and managed only 38 strikes, as he failed to complete four innings for the second time in four starts. Stone's erratic beginning to the season has left him with a 6.00 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 18 innings, and he could be running out of time to lock up a rotation spot with Walker Buehler (elbow) and Bobby Miller (shoulder) closing in on returns from the IL. Stone is scheduled to make his next start on the road in Toronto next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Tough luck in Chicago

Stone (0-1) was tagged with the loss after he pitched three innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five in Sunday's 8-1 defeat against the Cubs. Stone didn't have his best stuff Sunday, and combined with two fielding errors by his infield, he ended up with the loss. Through two starts in 2024, the right-hander has surrendered eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits and four walks over eight innings, navigating plenty of traffic on the basepaths. The 25-year-old is tentatively set to return to the mound Saturday at home versus the Padres.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Officially captures fifth spot

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed Stone on Monday that he'll open the season as the team's No. 5 starter, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Stone was told he officially won the job after he struck out eight of the 11 batters he faced during an exhibition appearance versus the Korean national team Monday in Seoul. The young right-hander also impressed during Cactus League action, allowing just one run with a 9:1 K:BB over 9.2 innings of work. Stone struggled mightily during his time with the big club last season, but a 32.6 percent strikeout rate in the minors points to his upside. He'll be available out of the bullpen for Los Angeles' two-game, season-opening set with the Padres in Seoul on Wednesday and Thursday, but his first start will likely come at home versus the Giants in the Dodgers' first series of April.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Frontrunner for No. 5 starter role

With Emmet Sheehan (upper body) set to begin the season on the IL, Stone and Michael Grove look like the leading candidates to claim the Dodgers' No. 5 rotation spot, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Stone was originally thought to be competing with Sheehan for the team's final rotation spot, but it appears that Grove is in the running as well. Grove may have helped his case with a standout Cactus League start Saturday during which he pitched 3.1 scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out six batters, but he struggled in two previous spring appearances. Meanwhile, Stone has been excellent in surrendering just one run over 5.2 innings with a 4:1 K:BB, so he's probably the frontrunner between the two. Manager Dave Roberts mentioned Kyle Hurt and Ryan Yarbrough are in the mix for the No. 5 starter role as well.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Optioned to Triple-A

The Dodgers optioned Stone to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Stone gave up 10 runs over 13 innings across three appearances during his latest stint in the majors, and he will now return to the minors amid his struggles. Michael Grove (lat) will return from the injured list to replace Stone on the active roster.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Gets last 10 outs for save

Stone allowed a hit and two walks while striking out five over 3.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Mariners. Stone was initially expected to be a bulk reliever but instead finished off the game after strong performances from opener Shelby Miller and Ryan Yarbrough, who went 4.2 innings. This was Stone's first scoreless outing in the majors, and just the second time he's allowed fewer than four runs. He's at a 9.45 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB through 26.2 innings over seven appearances. He may continue to work in some sort of piggyback role with Yarbrough, though Clayton Kershaw's workload is also being managed to close out the regular season. In any case, Stone should next be available to pitch near the end of the upcoming week.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Stone: To pitch Sunday

Stone will pitch Sunday against the Mariners as either a traditional starter or bulk reliever, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Stone pitched as a traditional starter Monday and struggled across 5.1 innings against San Diego. Manager Dave Roberts' wording Friday, when he indicated that Stone would work "the bulk innings", suggests that the right-hander will follow an opener this time around, though it's unclear who will fill that role. Emmet Sheehan was originally projected to start Sunday but could throw a shorter outing instead with the Dodgers likely monitoring his innings carefully.
