  • Blue Jays' Irv Carter: Debuts for Dunedin

Carter (undisclosed) was reinstated from Single-A Dunedin's 7-day injured list Friday and worked 1.2 innings in his 2023 debut, giving up four earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two.

Carter missed about five weeks of action to begin the minor-league season, presumably because he suffered an injury during the offseason or got hurt at some point during spring training. Since the rookie-level Florida Complex League season hasn't started, Carter was unable to complete a rehab assignment at a lower level, so he'll likely gradually build up his workload over his subsequent starts with Dunedin.

  • Blue Jays' Irv Carter: On minor-league IL

Carter is on the 7-day injured list with Single-A Dunedin with an undisclosed issue.

Per Jim Callis of MLB.com, Carter was held back in extended spring training, so he presumably either showed up to camp with an injury or he suffered something this spring. Carter logged a 5.48 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 47.2 innings last season split between rookie ball and Single-A.

  • Blue Jays' Irv Carter: Ticketed for Single-A

The Blue Jays promoted Carter from the rookie-level Florida Complex League to Single-A Dunedin on Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

A 2021 fifth-round pick, Carter's professional debut was delayed a year while the Blue Jays deliberately managed his workload coming off his senior season of high school. The 19-year-old right-hander was roughed up for 20 runs (18 earned) over 17.2 innings in his first five FCL starts, but he earned the promotion to Single-A after turning a corner around the minor-league All-Star break. Over his final four outings in rookie ball, Carter pitched to a 2.25 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB across 16 frames.

  • Blue Jays' Irv Carter: Makes pro debut

Carter (chest) debuted with the Blue Jays' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Friday, striking out six over his 3.2-inning start while allowing three runs on four hits and three walks.

Carter dealt with a minor chest injury in spring training, but he was cleared for game action shortly after the FCL season got underway last week. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-hander was a fifth-round selection for the Blue Jays in last year's first-year player draft.

  • Blue Jays' Irv Carter: In extended spring training

Carter is being built up in extended spring training after dealing with minor chest discomfort, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

He didn't pitch last season after the Jays' selected him with the 152nd overall pick in the draft. The big righty will likely be assigned to Single-A Dunedin once he's fully built up.
