  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Punches out nine for second win

Roupp (2-1) struck out nine and earned the win Saturday against the Angels after giving up two runs on five hits and a walk across seven innings. The right-hander surrendered a pair of solo homers to Mike Trout but otherwise shut down the Halos to pick up his second consecutive victory. Roupp has showed off his strikeout potential early in 2025 with at least eight punchouts in three of his four starts, though his 4.09 ERA and 1.36 WHIP is otherwise middling. A home matchup with the Brewers likely awaits for his next turn through the rotation.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Tough-luck loss Tuesday

Roupp (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Giants were downed 1-0 by the Reds, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. it was the first career quality start for the 26-year-old right-hander, who tossed 51 of 80 pitches for strikes before begin lifted from his pitchers' duel with Nick Lodolo. Roupp sports a 3.60 ERA and 12:4 K:BB through 10 innings over his first two outings of the season, but he lines up for a tough test his next time out, on the road early next week in Philadelphia.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Posts career-high eight strikeouts

Roupp didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Houston after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out eight. While Roupp handed out four free passes that drove up his pitch count to 83, he still fanned a career-high eight Wednesday. A Yordan Alvarez single in the fifth inning resulted in two of his earned runs, both of which scored as inherited runners after being pulled. Roupp doesn't figure to have a long leash as a starter, with Hayden Birdsong looming in the bullpen, but he tentatively lines up for a softer matchup at home against the Reds early next week.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Picked over Birdsong for rotation

Roupp will open the season as the Giants' fifth starter, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He was locked in a heated battle with Hayden Birdsong, who will open the season in the Giants' bullpen. Roupp received the nod after allowing five runs with a 14:1 K:BB over 12 innings during Cactus League play. The 26-year-old made four starts and 19 relief appearances with the Giants last season, finishing with a 3.58 ERA and 47:26 K:BB over 50.1 innings. Roupp doesn't have Birdsong's upside, but he is an interesting arm in his own right and deserves consideration in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: In tight battle for starting role

Roupp remains neck-and-neck with Hayden Birdsong for the fifth-starter role, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. With Kyle Harrison having been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, Birdsong and Roupp are now the final candidates for the last starting spot. The 26-year-old Roupp has recorded a 3.75 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB over 12 Cactus League innings this spring, and he was considered the frontrunner coming into camp. The right-hander made 23 appearances (four starts) for the Giants in the 2024 campaign, during which he logged a 3.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 47:26 K:BB over 50.1 frames. The Giants are expected to get a look at both candidates during Sunday's tune-up game against Triple-A Sacramento, which may help decide the competition.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Fighting for rotation spot

Roupp is still battling for a spot in the Giants' rotation, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports. Roupp was seen as the leading candidate for the final rotation spot earlier in camp, but Hayden Birdsong is making a strong push for the job with a 0.75 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 18:0 K:BB over 12 Cactus League innings this spring. Lefty Kyle Harrison remains in the mix as well. "Look, all three of these guys are going to pitch for us this year," manager Bob Melvin said after Sunday's game. "I don't think there's any doubt about that. But it's kind of cool to have three guys that are as talented as they are pitching for that last spot. It means we have some depth, and it means we have a good rotation. To this point, nothing's been decided. Let's put it that way."

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Leading fifth starter candidate

Roupp has become the leading candidate for San Francisco's fifth-starter role and appears set to win a roster spot either in the rotation or as a long reliever, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Roupp has had an impressive spring so far, tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with an 11:1 K:BB. Meanwhile Kyle Harrison has struggled this spring (12.27 ERA). There's still time for the race to shift, but Roupp merits a look in deeper fantasy formats. Roupp's sinker-curveball approach induces ground balls and could make him an interesting home streaming candidate at spacious Oracle Park.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Tosses five scoreless innings

Roupp allowed two hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Sunday. Roupp has allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks over 10 innings across two starts since he joined the Giants' rotation. He was efficient Sunday, throwing 74 pitches (51 strikes) in this outing. He may continue to stretch out over the remainder of the campaign, which gives him a chance to be in the conversation for a rotation spot next year. Overall, Roupp has pitched to a 3.02 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 40:21 K:BB through 41.2 innings over 21 appearances this year.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Fares well in start

Roupp (0-1) took the loss against the Brewers on Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three over five innings. The Brewers piled on four of their five hits against Roupp in the first inning, leading to two runs and a lead they would never give back. Roupp totaled 68 pitches and only allowed an infield single over the subsequent four innings following his rocky opening frame. He's maintained a 1.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over nine appearances (20.1 innings) since Aug. 9. It remains to be seen whether Roupp's next appearance will be made as a starter or out of the bullpen and will likely hinge on whether the Giants are able to get Robbie Ray (hamstring) back from the injured list next week.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Starting Tuesday's contest

Roupp will start Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It will be the first major-league start for Roupp, who fired 61 pitches over four scoreless relief innings in his last appearance Thursday versus the Diamondbacks. The righty has split time between the rotation and bullpen this season at Triple-A Sacramento, but he hasn't gone more than four frames in any outing in the majors and minors in 2024; therefore, he'll be relatively limited from a workload perspective.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Sent to Sacramento

The Giants optioned Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Roupp's demotion clears room on the Giants' 26-man active roster for right-hander Camilo Doval, who was recalled from Triple-A. In his four major-league outings after being recalled from Sacramento on Aug. 9, Roupp allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.2 innings. He'll likely shift back into the rotation as he rejoins the Triple-A club.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Called up by Giants

The Giants recalled Roupp from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Roupp will take Camilo Doval's spot on the active roster, marking Roupp's first MLB action since June 30. In 16.1 big-league innings, Roupp has logged a 6.06 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP with a 15:10 K:BB.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Tagged for three runs in relief

Roupp worked 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Heading into Sunday, Roupp had been residing on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list, but he had made three rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Rather than having him slot back into the Sacramento rotation Sunday, the Giants instead called him up from the minors to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen. Roupp ended up piggybacking starter Spencer Bivens, who tossed five innings of one-run ball before leaving the game. With the rotation having been hit hard by injuries lately, the Giants could have two openings during the upcoming week, but Bivens pitched well enough to earn one of those spots. Roupp could be an option for the other spot if Kyle Harrison (ankle) isn't ready to return from the 15-day injured list by the weekend.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Promoted, should pitch Sunday

Roupp (undisclosed) was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 25-year-old was on the injured list at Triple-A Sacramento with an unspecified injury, but he'll join the Giants after making three rehab starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Roupp has a 5.27 ERA and 12:8 K:BB across 13.2 innings for San Francisco this season. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Roupp is expected to cover about three innings behind opening pitcher Spencer Bivens against the Dodgers on Sunday.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: In midst of rehab assignment

Roupp (undisclosed) made his third rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, striking out four over two perfect innings. Roupp has resided on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list since May 24 with an unspecified injury, but he looks to be close to a return to action in the Pacific Coast League. He's cruised through his first three outings in the ACL, punching out 12 while not issuing a walk and allowing just two hits over five shutout innings. The injury came at an unfortunate time for Roupp, who possesses a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster and might have been under consideration to join the injury-riddled big-league rotation had he been healthy.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Heading back to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. He'll give up his spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Daulton Jefferies, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move and is expected to serve as the primary pitcher out of the bullpen in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Following his call-up from Sacramento last Wednesday, Roupp made two relief appearances for the Giants and gave up three earned runs over 3.1 innings.

  • Giants' Landen Roupp: Rejoins big club

The Giants recalled Roupp from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Roupp was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, but he'll be back with the Giants one day later after Blake Snell (adductor) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Snell had been slated to start Wednesday's game against the Mets, and though Ryan Walker is now set to serve as the Giants' opening pitcher, Roupp is likely to be part of the Giants' pitching plan either as a multi-inning reliever. Each of his eight appearances with the Giants this season have come out of the bullpen, with Roupp posting a 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB across 10.1 innings.
