• Rockies' Charlie Condon: Could compete for 1B job

  Condon could get the chance to compete for the Rockies' everyday first base job during spring training, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. After moving both Warming Bernabel and Michael Toglia off the 40-man roster during the offseason, the Rockies are now without both of their primary options at first base from 2025. Blaine Crim and waiver pickup Troy Johnston reached the majors for the first time in 2025 and could operate in a platoon at first base, but both players are on their second organizations and are entering their age-29 campaigns, making it unlikely that they're viewed as anything more than stopgaps at the position. Barring any outside additions, Condon -- one of the organization's top prospects -- thus appears likely to get his first look in the big leagues at some point in 2026, and it's not out of the question for him to force his way onto the Opening Day roster with a strong showing in spring training. The 22-year-old slashed .266/.379/.447 with 14 home runs and a 12.6 percent walk rate in 90 games last season between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford and continued to thrive in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted an .873 OPS in 22 games.

• Rockies' Charlie Condon: Hitting for power at Double-A

  Condon is slashing .239/.345/.484 with 11 home runs, one steal and a 29.1 percent strikeout rate in 52 games for Double-A Hartford. Condon, who was recently selected to play in the Arizona Fall League, has delivered on his power potential since getting promoted from High-A Spokane on July 1, but Condon's strikeouts and lack of speed portend a three-category player in fantasy. Most of the other top college hitters in his class have ascended to Triple-A or the big leagues, so the Rockies may end up regretting taking Condon third overall in what's looking like a loaded 2024 draft class. He has made 45 starts at first base and two starts at third base since getting to Double-A.

• Rockies' Charlie Condon: Making pro debut at High-A

  The Rockies assigned Condon to High-A Spokane on Tuesday. Condon is arguably the top player from the 2024 First-Year Player Draft for dynasty leagues, and he will be making his professional debut in the Midwest League. Spokane has a hitter-friendly home park, and the caliber of pitching at High-A at this point in the season is pretty poor, so Condon could put up monster numbers for as long as he remains with Spokane. A promotion to Double-A Hartford before season's end isn't out of the question.
