  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Delivers quality start Wednesday

Sugano came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Nationals, giving up three runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out one without walking a batter. The 35-year-old MLB rookie served up homers to James Wood and Josh Bell in the first inning, but Sugano kept his focus and kept Washington off the board for the rest of his time on the mound. He's produced quality starts in back-to-back outings and has yet to allow more than three runs in any of his first five starts for the Orioles despite a lack of dominance -- he managed only four swinging strikes among his 94 pitches (56 strikes) Wednesday. Sugano will take a 3.54 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 9:5 K:BB through 28 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Yankees.

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Goes seven innings in win

Sugano (2-1) earned the win against the Guardians on Thursday. He allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out three across seven innings. It was a strong overall performance for Sugano, who faced the minimum number of batters in five of seven innings. The third frame was his only blemish on the day, when he gave up back-to-back solo homers to Daniel Schneemann and Austin Hedges. It was Sugano's first quality start of 2025, and he's opened the season with a 3.43 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB across 21 innings

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Gives up three runs in no-decision

Sugano didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks without a strikeout across 4.2 innings. Sugano gave up a run in each of the first three innings of Saturday's game, including a solo home run to Anthony Santander in the third frame. Sugano wasn't able to record a strikeout but was just one out shy from being eligible to factor into the decision. The Japanese right-hander has started his major-league career with a 3.86 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 14 innings while recording only five strikeouts. Sugano is slated to pitch next week against the Guardians at home, when he'll look to capture his second win of 2025.

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Friday's game postponed

Sugano will not make his scheduled start Friday against the Blue Jays, as the game has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader July 29, but neither Sugano nor Cade Povich will be skipped in the rotation this weekend. Sugano picked up his first career big-league win his last time out when he threw 5.1 innings of one-run ball in Kansas City, fanning four while walking one.

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Strong showing for first win

Sugano (1-1) allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out four across 5.1 innings to earn the win Saturday against the Royals. Sugano had a shaky MLB debut that ended early due to cramps, but he managed to bounce back Saturday to earn his first MLB win. He began 17 of the 23 batters he faced with a strike and induced several softly hit flyballs for easy outs. Unsurprisingly, Sugano hasn't showcased overpowering stuff early in his big-league sample, but he has been capable of limiting runs and should be in line for plenty of wins with the support of the Baltimore offense.

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Makes spring debut

Sugano gave up two hits and a walk over two scoreless innings during his Grapefruit League debut against the Pirates on Wednesday. The Orioles anticipated Sugano throwing 35-to-40 pitches during his first spring outing, but the 35-year-old righty was able to get through his scheduled two innings on just 28 pitches -- 17 of which were strikes. He said after the game that he was primarily focused on getting used to pitching in a new environment and communicating with his catcher, and he'll look to work more on pitch sequencing during his next start, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. Sugano is expected to open the year in Baltimore's starting rotation after turning in a 1.67 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 156.2 innings in Japan last season.

  • Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Reports to camp

Sugano reported to Orioles camp Saturday. Sugano's arrival was delayed a few days due to visa issues, but he's now managed to make his way to the Orioles' facility in Florida without falling too far behind. He expects to throw his first bullpen session Monday, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, and the 35-year-old righty is projected to open the season in Baltimore's starting rotation.
