Caleb Simpson: Released by Guardians
The Guardians released Simpson on Saturday.
Simpson landed on the minor-league injured list May 17 due to an oblique injury and made his return June 14. In the four games he appeared in thereafter, Simpson surrendered six runs on five hits and eight walks across 4.1 innings with Triple-A Columbus. Simpson has struggled mightily in Triple-A since last season, and he'll now attempt to latch on with another organization willing to give him another chance.

Guardians' Caleb Simpson: Placed on minor-league IL
Triple-A Columbus placed Simpson on the 7-day injured list Wednesday with an oblique injury.
Simpson has produced a 4.91 ERA and an inflated 2.39 WHIP with four strikeouts over 7.1 innings with Columbus this season. It's unclear how long the injury will sideline him, but the 31-year-old will look to return as soon as possible and continue to try and crack the major-league roster for the first time in his career.

Guardians' Caleb Simpson: Inks minor-league contract
Simpson signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Thursday.
Simpson is 31 and he's yet to see any action in the majors, but the Guardians are giving him an invitation to spring training as part of this contract. The right-hander split 2022 between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in the Red Sox organization, putting up a ghastly 7.20 ERA.
