  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Moved to 60-day IL

The Giants transferred Encarnacion (hand) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Encarnacion continues to progress in his recovery from a procedure in March to repair a fracture in his left hand. His movement to the 60-day injured list means that he won't be eligible to rejoin the Giants until May 25, and a clearer timeline for his return will be known once he resumes baseball activities.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Sheds brace on left hand

Encarnacion is no longer wearing a brace on his left hand, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Encarnacion was placed on the 10-day injured list at the start of the season after undergoing surgery in March to repair a fracture in his left hand. He hasn't progressed enough in his recovery to start swinging a bat, but he's doing more exercises to get his hand and forearm back to full strength. Encarnacion appeared in 35 games for the Giants in 2024, slashing .248/.277/.425 with one stolen base, 13 runs scored, five homers and 19 RBI across 119 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Undergoing surgery Friday

Encarnacion is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday on his fractured left hand, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 27-year-old appears likely to miss at least the first month of the season. Before injuring his hand in the final week of spring training, Encarnacion was on track to open the season as the Giants' primary designated hitter, but those duties are now expected to fall to Wilmer Flores, who slugged a three-run home run in San Francisco's Opening Day win over Cincinnati.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Set for surgery

Encarnacion (hand) will undergo hand surgery in Los Angeles on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Encarnacion suffered a fractured left hand Friday against the Guardians, which will now be addressed via a procedure. The 27-year-old will miss at least a month of action while recovering. In the meantime, Wilmer Flores stands to operate in a more significant role with the Giants to open the season.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Making case for DH job

Encarnacion went 2-for-3 with a double in Sunday's win over the Angels and is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with a home run in six spring games. Encarnacion has had a strong first week of spring training and appears to be in the lead for the starting DH role. He has just three strikeouts this spring, which is encouraging since he had a 28.6 percent strikeout rate and just a 4.2 percent walk rate in the majors last season.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Homers in Friday's loss

Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Cardinals. Encarnacion went yard in the second inning to put the Giants up 2-1. The outfielder has struggled to claim consistent playing time since joining the major-league roster at the start of August. He's hitting .255 (12-for-47) with three homers and 11 RBI over 14 contests in September while filling a part-time role. For the season, Encarnacion has a .257/.288/.448 slash line, five homers, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and one stolen base over 111 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Sitting against righty again

Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Encarnacion appeared to have settled into an everyday role after making five consecutive starts, but he'll find himself on the bench Wednesday for the second day in a row. Both of Encarnacion's absences have come against right-handed pitchers, so he may have moved back into the short side of a platoon in the corner outfield or designated hitter with the lefty-hitting Michael Conforto.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Crushes three-run homer

Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Padres. Encarnacion followed up Matt Chapman's two-run homer in the fifth with a three-run blast to put the Giants up 5-0. It was his first extra-base hit since he last homered Aug. 18 and he's now notched at least one base hit in each of his last five games. Still, he's made just four starts since Aug. 31 and doesn't appear to have a path to a larger role unless injuries happen in front of him. For the year, Encarnacion is slashing .257/.293/.429 with three homers, 13 RBI, eight runs, a steal and a 4:23 BB:K in 75 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Falls into platoon role

Encarnacion will start in right field and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Earlier this month, Encarnacion appeared to have taken hold of a full-time role while dabbling between designated hitter and the corner outfield, but he looks to have moved into a short-side platoon role following Grant McCray's promotion from Triple-A Sacramento last Wednesday. Each of the right-handed-hitting Encarnacion's last three starts have come against left-handed pitching, while he's been excluded from the lineup in each of the Giants' last four matchups with right-handed pitchers.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Hits go ahead home run

Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Athletics. Encarnacion led off the top of the 10th with a two-run blast against Dany Jimenez to give the Giants their first lead of the game and ultimately give them the win. It was his second home run and third game with multiple hits since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento at the beginning of the month. Encarnacion has started in 12-of-16 games since his promotion and is slashing .255/.300/.447 with seven RBI, five runs, a steal and a 3:14 BB:K in 50 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Posts first steal

Encarnacion went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Tigers. Encarnacion has hit fairly well since joining the Giants' roster, batting .286 over eight games. He's added a 2:8 BB:K, with both walks coming over his last two games. The 26-year-old has seen time in right field and at designated hitter, and he's seemingly passed Marco Luciano on the depth chart despite Luciano's stronger prospect pedigree. Encarnacion shouldn't be relied on for speed, but his power is a plus -- he has a homer and two doubles over 30 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Contract selected Friday

The Giants selected Encarnacion's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. The 26-year-old signed a minor-league contract with the Giants in May after beginning the year in the Mexican League, and he'll receive a look in the big leagues after he posted a .352/.438/.616 slash line with 10 homers in 33 games for Triple-A Sacramento. Encarnacion isn't likely to have a regular spot in the lineup, but he could see some playing time against left-handed pitchers.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Will be added to roster Friday

The Giants will call up Encarnacion from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Encarnacion, 26, began the season in the Mexican League before signing a minor-league contract with the Giants in May. Since joining Sacramento, he's hit a blistering .352/.438/.616 with 10 home runs in just 33 games. Encarnacion was once a prospect of some repute with the Marlins, reaching the majors for a 23-game cup of coffee in 2022, but he produced a .548 OPS and struck out at a 39.5 percent rate. Miami didn't re-sign him after he struck out 200 times last season with Triple-A Jacksonville, but he's resurrected his career. Encarnacion has been playing more first base lately with Triple-A Sacramento, and the Giants' initial plan seems to be using him as a short-side platoon player at that position.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Joining San Francisco organization

Encarnacion signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on Thursday. Encarnacion was playing for Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League prior to the deal. He has only 81 career big-league plate appearances and was last a member of the Marlins organization.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Removed from 40-man roster

Encarnacion cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. Encarnacion is slashing .211/.324/.438 with 19 home runs at Jacksonville this season.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Optioned to Triple-A

Encarnacion was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion lost out on playing time recently, as he was in the lineup for just three of the last 15 games. He'll lose his spot on the active roster with Avisail Garcia (hamstring) and Joey Wendle (hamstring) being reinstated from the injured list.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Loses work to De La Cruz

Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion was expected to be the main beneficiary of Avisail Garcia's (hamstring) recent move back to the injured list, but that hasn't been the case. Instead, Bryan De La Cruz looks on tap to serve as Garcia's primary replacement in right field, as he'll stick in the lineup for the third game in a row. Encarnacion, meanwhile, has been stuck on the bench all three times.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Riding pine Tuesday

Encarnacion is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion is hitting .231/.244/.385 with one home run and one steal in 13 games since his latest call-up. Brian Anderson gets the start in left field, hitting third.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Socks second homer

Encarnacion went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-1 loss to Atlanta. He spoiled Atlanta's shutout bid by taking Charlie Morton deep in the third inning, but it was all the offense Miami could muster. Encarnacion is hitting just .225 through his first 41 big-league plate appearances with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate, but he's showing off his power potential with three doubles, two homers and 11 RBI.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Called up, starting Friday

Encarnacion was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville and will start in left field and bat ninth Friday against the Dodgers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion was promoted for his MLB debut in June and went 1-for-8 with a grand slam and a stolen base in two games before being sent back to Jacksonville, and he'll now rejoin the Marlins. The 24-year-old could receive regular opportunities in the outfield with Jorge Soler (back), Avisail Garcia (hamstring) and Garrett Cooper (concussion) on the injured list.
