Rangers' Chris Tillman: Placed on DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (groin) has been placed on the disabled list, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Tillman is another reclamation project the Rangers are attempting, but it has not gone well. He allowed four runs in 2.2 innings before injuring his groin in his second start.

Rangers' Chris Tillman: Suffers groin strain in Triple-A start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman threw only 11 pitches in his start Tuesday at Triple-A Round Rock before exiting with a groin strain, the Associated Press reports.

Making his second appearance for Round Rock since inking a minor-league deal with Texas earlier in the month, Tillman recorded only one out and gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits and a hit by pitch. The right-hander was torched to the tune of a 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in his seven starts with the Orioles earlier this season and hasn't been much better in his minor-league cameos in the Baltimore or Texas organizations either. Now that he's also nursing an injury, it's beginning to look unlikely he'll receive another promotion to the majors before the 2018 season ends.

Rangers' Chris Tillman: Starting Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman will make his debut for Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Wesley Dotson of reports.

Tillman, 30, spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Orioles before being granted his release from the organization July 27. He was 1-5 with a 10.46 ERA in seven starts for Baltimore this season. The Rangers are looking at him as a possible reclamation project with an eye toward having him in the starting rotation in 2019. The Rangers are bereft of pitching prospects at the higher levels of the system that are ready to jump into the rotation next season, so they are looking at guys like Tillman and Drew Hutchison as stop-gap measures during the team's rebuilding process.

Rangers' Chris Tillman: Joining Round Rock
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

TIllman will report to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Tillman, the former Oriole, was signed to a minor-league contract last week. His first start for Round Rock has not yet been set.

Rangers' Chris Tillman: Bullpen scheduled Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, TR Sullivan of reports.

The Rangers claimed Tillman after the Orioles released him July 25. He'll throw in front of pitching coaches Doug Brocail and Dan Warthen, the first time the organization will get a live look at its new acquisition. "We'd like to get our arms around him," Texas manager Jeff Banister said. "Let him get to know us, vice-versa. Let him throw a bullpen. That relationship is huge, especially when you get a guy coming from another organization. You get to be around these guys, Dan and Doug, gets some thoughts so when he does pitch there is some familiarity there. Get him in-house and get him going." The Rangers see Tillman as a potential reclamation project on a similar path as that of Yovani Gallardo. After Saturday's bullpen session, Tillman will report to Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers' Chris Tillman: Latches on with Rangers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman inked a minor-league deal with Texas on Thursday.

Tillman struggled to stay healthy with the Orioles in 2018, as he was on the shelf for the majority of the season due to a lower-back issue prior to electing free agency July 25. He'll report to Triple-A Round Rock in the near future, where he'll look to turn his season around.

Chris Tillman: Elects free agency
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman will test the open market after being released by the Orioles on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Tillman returned from the disabled list Friday and was immediately designated for assignment. He declined Baltimore's offer to pitch at Triple-A Norfolk, so he'll look to latch on elsewhere in the big leagues. The 30-year-old started seven games for the Orioles in 2018 and struggled to a 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 26.2 innings.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Returns from disabled list and DFA'd
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) was activated off the 10-day disabled list Friday and designated for assignment by the Orioles.

Tillman has been on the shelf since mid-May due to a lower-back strain and made six minor-league rehab appearances over the last month, allowing 22 runs (20 earned) on 36 hits over 26.2 innings. The move seemed like an inevitability for the Orioles, as the 30-year-old's 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP prior to suffering the injury made it difficult to justify a spot on the 40-man roster. Tillman will decide within the next few days whether to remain in the organization at Triple-A Norfolk or take his chances in free agency, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Effective in rehab outing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three across 5.1 innings during a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Rich Dubroff of reports.

Tillman appeared to be completely healthy during his sixth minor-league rehabilitation assignment. He'll likely be activated from the 10-day disabled list following the All-Star break after missing over two months due to a lower-back strain. Tillman struggled with the big club prior to his injury, accruing a 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 26.2 innings, so it's unclear as to what role he'll handle upon his return.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: To throw rehab outing Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) is slated to start Sunday for Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

The plan is for Tillman to make another minor-league start, although with Andrew Cashner (neck) likely shut down until after the All-Star break, Baltimore will need a spot starter Sunday against the Rangers. Tillman could be an option to make the start, although an official announcement won't be made until later in the week.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Scheduled for fifth rehab start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) is slated to make a start for High-A Frederick -- the fifth of his current rehab assingment -- on Tuesday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Tillman's back checked out fine during a 45-pitch bullpen session Sunday, so he'll be ready what could be his final rehab start prior to being activated from the 10-day disabled list. The right-hander covered six innings in his last outing for Triple-A Norfolk and said he wants to work into the seventh or eighth inning Tuesday. If all goes according to plan, Tillman would likely be ready to rejoin the Orioles as soon as Sunday, though it's more likely the big club waits until after the All-Star break to reinstate him.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Slated to make another rehab start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) will start again for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Tillman hasn't gotten out of the fourth inning in any of his rehab starts, so it's no surprise that he'll make at least one more. He had an ugly 10.46 ERA in seven starts at the major-league level prior to his injury, and it's not clear if the Orioles will want him back on the roster any time soon, let alone in the rotation.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Next step in rehab unclear
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he wasn't certain where or when Tillman (back) would make his next rehab start after the right-hander was roughed up Saturday for five runs on eight hits and a walk over 3.1 innings for Triple-A Norfolk, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. "It didn't look very good statistically," Showalter said of Tillman's latest rehab outing. "I probably know the same thing [about Tillman's next step] that y'all do at this point."

Tillman has already made three rehab starts and is about halfway through the 30-day rehab window pitchers are allotted under MLB rules. With Tillman having failed to escape the fourth inning in any of his minor-league outings thus far, it's almost certain that he'll need another start or two on the farm before the Orioles would consider bringing him off the 10-day disabled list. Tillman posted a 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in seven starts prior to hitting the DL and hasn't noticed dramatically better results in the minors, so the Orioles may be reluctant to insert him back into the big-league rotation once he's activated.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Moving rehab assignment to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) is scheduled to make his third rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of reports.

Tillman made the second start of his rehab assignment for Low-A Delmarva on Monday, covering 3.1 innings and tossing 62 pitches in that outing. The Orioles probably want to see Tillman build up to around 80-to-90 pitches and find success against higher-level minor-league competition before deeming him ready to return from the DL, so the right-hander will head to the International League for a stiffer challenge. It seems likely that Tillman will be in store for at least one additional start in the minors beyond Saturday's outing prior to being reinstated to Baltimore's active roster.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Goes 3.1 innings in second rehab start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) made his second rehab start Monday for Low-A Delmarva, covering 3.1 innings and giving up two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three.

Tillman tossed 62 pitches (37 strikes) Monday and will likely need to up his count to the 80-to-90 range before the Orioles entertain activating the right-hander from the 10-day disabled list. Considering Tillman had posted a 10.46 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in 26.2 innings prior to landing on the DL in May with a lower-back strain, he's far from a lock to regain a rotation spot once he's activated.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Second rehab outing coming next week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) is expected to take the mound with Low-A Delmarva on Monday for his second minor-league rehab appearance, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Tillman made his first rehab start with short-season Aberdeen on Wednesday, which went by without any problems outside of a rough first inning. The right-hander will build up his arm during Monday's anticipated outing, tossing approximately four innings or 60 pitches. Expect Tillman to require at least one more minor-league start following Monday's appearance before returning to Baltimore.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Cleared for rehab stint
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with short-season Aberdeen on Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of reports.

Tillman has been on the disabled list since May 11 with a lower-back strain. Given the length of his absence, he'll likely need to make multiple rehab starts before being cleared to rejoin the Orioles. Tillman struggled to a 10.46 ERA through seven starts prior to landing on the shelf, so he'll need to prove his effectiveness once healthy before being trusted.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Nearing rehab assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) could head to short-season Aberdeen for a rehab assignment next week, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Tillman has been sidelined with a lower-back strain since May 11. His results were shockingly poor before the injury, as he posted a 10.46 ERA, a 9.5 percent strikeout rate and a 12.4 percent walk rate. That comes on the heels of the 7.84 ERA he posted in 93 innings last season. He will certainly have to prove his effectiveness when he returns from injury before fantasy owners will have any reason to trust him even as a streaming option.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Still throwing bullpens
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) has been throwing bullpen sessions at the Orioles' spring training facility in Florida, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Tillman is inching closer to heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, which would mark the final step in his recovery from a lower-back strain that has kept him sidelined since May 11. He'll need to do more than prove his health while on his rehab assignment; manager Buck Showalter said the 30-year-old will need to produce serviceable results in the minors before the Orioles feel comfortable bringing him back. "He'll go out on rehab and take some starts there and he's going to have to show us not only that he's healthy, but he's doing something different than he was doing here before he left," Showalter said. "I feel confident that he's going to be able to do that.

Orioles' Chris Tillman: Tosses bullpen session
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillman (back) threw a 35-pitch bullpen Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Tillman continues to progress, as he threw for the first time since the injury Sunday and he's since progressed to a bullpen session. The Orioles will likely assess the injury following his latest throwing session in order to determine when he can begin a rehab assignment.
