  Lowe (oblique) played nine innings in center field and went 0-for-3 with a walk during a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Friday. Lowe was originally set to begin his rehab assignment Thursday, but the game was rained out. Perhaps most notable about his initial appearance was his defensive position, as he's primarily played right field in the majors. However, with Jose Siri struggling early, the team could opt to replace him with Lowe and rely on a combination of Richie Palacios and Amed Rosario in right field.

  Lowe (oblique) is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Best of all, Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Lowe might not need too much time at Triple-A given how well he's been feeling. Lowe has been playing in games at extended spring training, and it sounds like he's moved past the Grade 1 right oblique strain that shelved him to begin the season. A return before the end of April would seem to be back on the table for Lowe, who hit 20 homers and stole 32 bases in a breakout 2023 campaign.

  Lowe (oblique) will play in two more extended spring training games in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could soon be sent to Triple-A Durham on a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. Lowe was limited to only two Grapefruit League games; first the outfielder was shelved with left hip inflammation, and then he suffered a Grade 1 right oblique strain just as he was nearing his return. With that, he is expected to need something close to a full spring training's worth of at-bats during his rehab assignment, which likely pushes his 2024 debut to early May. Lowe broke out last season at the age of 25, batting .292 with 20 homers and 32 steals, and he will be a lineup fixture for Tampa Bay upon his return.

Though Lowe is dealing with a Grade 1 right oblique strain -- the most mild degree of strain -- he has yet to resume baseball activities since suffering the injury in mid-March and is on track to miss more than the minimum 10 days. According to MLB.com, Lowe will essentially need to complete a full spring training progression once he's cleared for activities, so at this stage, he's likely tracking for a late-April or early-May return. While Lowe is on the shelf to open the season, Richie Palacios, Harold Ramirez and Amed Rosario could all be in store for extra playing time in the corner outfield or at designated hitter.

  Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Lowe has been shut down from baseball activities for the next six days due to left hip inflammation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. While Lowe could be cleared to resume activities next week once the shutdown period ends, Topkin suggests that the outfielder won't immediately be rushed back into games and may not re-enter the Grapefruit League lineup for the next 10-to-15 days. So long as Lowe is playing again by mid-March, his availability for Opening Day shouldn't be in much peril, but any setback along the way would put the 26-year-old at risk of a stint on the injured list.
