Indians' Nolan Jones: Shielded from Rule 5 draft
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones was added to Cleveland's 40-man roster Friday.

Jones is one of Cleveland's top prospects, so it's not surprising to see him protected from the Rule 5 draft. The 22-year-old trained at the alternate training site in 2020, but he's yet to advance past the Double-A level. He hit .253 with eight home runs and 22 RBI with Double-A Akron in 2019.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones will be a part of the Indians' 60-man player pool this season.

Jones is one of the Indians' best prospects and could be their everyday third baseman in the not-so-distant future. However, he had nine strikeouts in 19 plate appearances this spring and hit .200 with 31 strikeouts in 68 plate appearances in the Arizona Fall League, so he is not quite ready to hold his own against big-league pitching.

Indians' Nolan Jones: Sent to minors camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones was assigned to minor-league camp Wednesday.

Jones got to spend a few weeks in big-league camp, going 1-for-12 with nine strikeouts in Cactus League action, though he did at least walk seven times. Jones has only played 49 games at the Double-A level, so he'll need some more minor-league experience before being seriously considered for a major-league spot.

Indians' Nolan Jones: Joins major-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones (thumb) was invited to the Indians' major-league spring training Monday as a non-roster invitee, Mandy Bell of reports.

Jones underwent thumb surgery in late October, but he's reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehab, so the team will reward him with a spot in major-league camp. The 21-year-old reached the Double-A level in 2019, and he'll look to develop further with the major-league coaching staff this spring.

Indians' Nolan Jones: Undergoes surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones underwent surgery on his right thumb Wednesday, but hopes to be ready for the start of spring training, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The 21-year-old made his way to Double-A Akron last season and hit .253/.370/.466 with eight home runs with the team. The surgery will likely hinder Jones' offseason training, but it's encouraging that the team is hoping he'll be ready for spring training next season.

Indians' Nolan Jones: Advancing to Double-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones will be promoted to Double-A Akron following Sunday's Futures Game, Jordan Wolf of reports.

Jones owns a strong .286/.435/.425 slash line with seven homers and five steals for High-A Lynchburg this season. He's yet to showcase the plus power that scouts project him with, but his 20.1 percent walk rate stands out as particularly impressive, and he's walked at least 16.2 percent of the time at each of his minor-league stops in his four-year professional career.

Indians' Nolan Jones: On fire at High-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones went 3-for-5 with a home run, double and four RBI in High-A Lynchburg's 7-6 win over Potomac on Wednesday.

Jones delivered his fourth multi-hit effort over his last five games, elevating his slash line to a magnificent .317/.446/.567 across 18 games in the Carolina League. The 20-year-old third baseman looks on track to open the upcoming campaign as the Indians' top position prospect after raking at Low-A Lakewood prior to moving up a rung on the minor-league ladder.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones is 4-for-20 with a home run and 9:2 K:BB in six games since his promotion to High-A Lynchburg.

He hit .279/.393/.464 with 16 home runs and an impressive 97:63 K:BB in 389 plate appearances at Low-A prior to the promotion. Obviously he hasn't hit the ground running after the promotion, but given Jones' patient, all-fields approach, he should hit his stride sooner than later.

Indians' Nolan Jones: Activated from disabled list Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Indians' Nolan Jones: Crushes way through short season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones impressed during his first campaign in the New York-Penn League, slashing an impressive .317/.430/.482 over 62 games and 218 at-bats for Mahoning Valley.

The Tribe's second-round pick (55th overall) in 2016 took a major step in his climb towards MLB. Jones dominated the short season and will certainly begin 2018 at one the team's Single-A affiliates. The 19-year-old still has a long road ahead of him, but Jones is turning heads early in his professional career.
