Yankees' Neil Walker: Picks up start at keystone
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker will start at second base and bat ninth Sunday against the Angels, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Walker has been seeing most of his action at first base in recent weeks, but he'll receive a turn at his natural position in the series finale with everyday second baseman Gleyber Torres receiving a rare day off. Despite being included in the starting nine Sunday, Walker seems likely to be a fixture on the bench in most games going forward following Greg Bird's return from the 10-day disabled list a day earlier. The lefty-hitting Bird should see the bulk of the starts at first base, with the right-handed Tyler Austin (.931 OPS against southpaws this season) likely representing a more ideal platoon mate than the switch-hitting Walker, who has historically been more productive against right-handed pitching.

Yankees' Neil Walker: Not starting Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not starting against the Royals on Saturday.

Since May 2, Walker has started at first against every righty while Tyler Austin has gotten the nod against every lefty. That setup will continue against the southpaw Danny Duffy on Saturday. Walker has struggled so far this season, hitting just .211/.298/.257 with no homers in 31 games, though he does have 10 hits in his last 29 at-bats.

Yankees' Neil Walker: On bench Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

As has been the case recently, Walker will head to the bench as Tyler Austin gets the start at first base with left-hander Gio Gonzalez starting for the opposition. The switch-hitting Walker has seemingly worked his way into the larger side of a platoon at first base -- thanks to his strong play this month and Austin's struggles -- so look for him to rejoin the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against righty Tanner Roark.

Yankees' Neil Walker: Heads to bench Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic New York reports.

Though Tyler Austin gets the nod at first base in the series finale with lefty Brett Anderson on the hill for Oakland, Austin has gone hitless in 18 at-bats over his last six starts and may have fallen into a platoon. The switch-hitting Walker, meanwhile, has started at first base in each of the Yankees' last seven games against right-handed pitching and has rebounded from a poor April with a 9-for-26 (.346 average) mark at the plate and a .514 on-base percentage during the current month. With the Yankees scheduled to face another lefty (Gio Gonzalez) on Tuesday against the Nationals, look for Walker to remain on the bench for that contest before returning to the starting nine Wednesday versus right-hander Tanner Roark.

Yankees' Neil Walker: Benched for fourth time in five games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup Thursday against the Twins.

Manager Aaron Boone indicated Sunday following Gleyber Torres' promotion to the big leagues that the top prospect would be in line for an everyday role at the keystone, and the Yankees skipper has stuck to that declaration. Torres will make his fifth straight start Thursday, leaving no room in the lineup for Walker, who will sit for the fourth time during that span. Walker's lone starting assignment came at first base Tuesday, but he won't have a path to regular playing time at the position with Tyler Austin continuing to swing a hot bat.
