Phillies' Neil Walker: Decent shot at bench spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker hit a passable .250/.300/.393 in 11 Grapefruit League games this spring.

Walker has no intention of heading to Triple-A as a 34-year-old, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports, so he may be bound for retirement if he can't win a roster spot in Philadelphia. As a switch hitter who can play both infield and outfield (he started games at first, second, third and left field this spring), he should have a good chance to do that. The Phillies can afford to prioritize offense with their bench spots as they have three players capable of playing shortstop (Didi Gregorius, Jean Segura and Scott Kingery) in the expected starting lineup. Walker's switch hitting may give him the edge over fellow veterans Logan Forsythe and Josh Harrison as a pinch-hit option, but it would probably take an injury ahead of him for him to earn a fantasy-relevant role.

Phillies' Neil Walker: Joining Phillies camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker signed with the Phillies as a non-roster invitee Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Following eight straight seasons with a wRC+ of at least 106, the 34-year-old's performance has fallen off in the last two seasons. His .261/.344/.395 line for the Marlins last season was still good for a roughly average 99 wRC+, however, meaning he should still be a capable bench player. Whether the Phillies want to carry a bench bat that didn't start anywhere other than the corner infield spots last year remains to be seen.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Out of Friday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies.

The 34-year-old will head to the bench for the second consecutive game as Austin Dean receives another start at first base. Walker has a .789 OPS over 17 games in September.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Rides pine Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not in the lineup Thursday against the Mets.

Walker is hitting .267 with a .789 OPS through 17 games this month. Austin Dean is starting at first base and hitting fifth in his place Thursday.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Sitting again Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not in the lineup Monday against the Mets, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Walker will stick on the bench for a second straight game as Austin Dean picks up another start at first base in his stead. The veteran infielder, who is hitting .257 with a .718 OPS through 110 games this season, could continue to see his playing time dwindle over the final week of the season as the Marlins look to give other players looks.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Not starting Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Walker started the last three games at first base, but he will be held out Sunday in favor of Austin Dean, who will make his first start at first base this season.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Benched again vs. lefty
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Walker will head to the bench for a second straight day with another southpaw slated to toe the rubber for Arizona. Martin Prado draws the start at first base and will bat fifth.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Heads to bench Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is not in Thursday's lineup against the Brewers.

He is hitting .263 with zero home runs in seven games this month. Garrett Cooper starts at first base while Lewis Brinson starts in right field.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Draws back into lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker will start at first base and bat second Monday against the Brewers, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Though Walker will be occupying a prominent lineup spot, the Marlins don't appear to view him as an everyday player at this point in the season. He was on the bench for three of Miami's previous five games and looks like the No. 2 option at both first and third base behind Garrett Cooper and Starlin Castro, respectively.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Sitting Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Walker had started each of the previous four games at either corner-infield spot, but his path to consistent action still appears blocked so long as both Garrett Cooper and Starlin Castro are healthy and available. The veteran is on an expiring deal, so the 46-82 Marlins don't have much incentive to hand him regular at-bats as the season winds down.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Registers three base knocks
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored Friday against Philadelphia.

Walker knocked home a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a double to right field, giving his team an 11-9 lead. The 33-year-old has put together a modest three-game hitting streak and is slashing .269/.346/.392 with five homers, 26 RBI and two stolen bases over 88 games this year.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Triples in return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker went 1-for-4 with a triple in Friday's loss to the Rockies.

The veteran infielder took advantage of hitting in Coors Field to smack his first three-bagger of the year. Walker played first base and hit cleanup Friday in his return from the injured list, and with Garrett Cooper having not homered in a month, that's likely his best path to semi-consistent playing time.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Returns to lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker (finger) was activated off the 10-day injured list and will start at first base Friday and bat fourth against the Rockies.

Walker was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right finger Aug. 5, but is now ready to return to the starting nine. Prior to the injury, Walker had amassed a slash line of .262/.343/.384 with five home runs. Devin Marrero was designated for assignment to make room for Walker.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Placed on injured list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Walker left Saturday's game against Tampa Bay with a jammed right index finger. The injury is now being referred to as a sprain, and he'll get at least 10 days to rest and heal. He could be forced to compete with Starlin Castro for at-bats at third base once healthy, as Isan Diaz was recalled in a corresponding move and will presumably become the primary second baseman.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Remains out Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

Walker was removed from Saturday's contest after jamming his right index finger, and he'll take at least one day out of the starting nine to recover. Jon Berti receives the start at the hot corner in his place.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Leaves with finger injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker was removed from Saturday's game at Tampa Bay with a jammed right index finger, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Walker went 1-for-3 with a run scored before being lifted for a pinch hitter during the seventh inning. The veteran infielder should be considered day-to-day until the severity of the injury is determined.

Marlins' Neil Walker: On base three times in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the Diamondbacks.

The veteran infielder lived up to his name in this one, but productive games have been rare for Walker lately. He's slashing just .207/.299/.259 through 20 games in July with four RBI and seven runs, and he has only three extra-base hits -- all doubles -- on the month.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Sitting versus lefty
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

It's the second consecutive game on the bench for Walker with the Diamondbacks sending another southpaw to the mound in Robbie Ray. The 33-year-old is slashing .231/.318/.282 in only 44 plate appearances against lefties this season. Martin Prado will start at the hot corner in the series finale.

Marlins' Neil Walker: Heads to bench
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker is out of the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Walker won't start against southpaw Alex Young. The 33-year-old is 2-for-18 with five strikeouts over his last five games. Martin Prado will serve as the starting third baseman, batting seventh.
