  • Bryce Love: Cut by Washington

The Washington Football Team waived Love (knee) on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Love was a Heisman runner-up for Stanford in 2017, but he's struggled to stay healthy ever since tearing an ACL toward the end of his senior season (December 2018). Washington took a shot on the young RB in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but Love still hasn't played in an NFL game. He spent the final three months of last season on injured reserve.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Season finished as expected

Love (knee) wasn't removed from IR on Wednesday, meaning he will miss the rest of the season, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. It was reported earlier Wednesday that Love wasn't expected to be activated when his window remained open, so this news isn't quite surprising. Love hasn't really practiced much recently anyway, so he'll focus getting healthy and recovering in time to make the team next season.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Expected to stay on IR

Love (knee) isn't expected to be removed from IR before the window to activate him ends Dec. 2, which means he'll miss the rest of the season, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Love hasn't suited up for game action in two years since suffering an ACL tear on the last play of his college career. He hasn't been able to practice much recently and will set his sights on recovering in time to try to make the team next season.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Inching toward return

Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that he's hopeful Love (knee) will be able to return "in the next few weeks," Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports. Rivera added that "the opportunity to get [Love] back on the field is coming soon," noting that the second-year pro has strung together multiple encouraging days with the trainers. The 23-year-old landed on IR due to swelling in his knee early October, and prior to that he was a healthy scratch for Washington's first three games of the year.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Lands on injured reserve

Love was placed on injured reserve Friday with a knee injury, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports. The 23-year-old has been experiencing swelling in his knee over the past few days, so Washington will shut him down for a bit to allow a full recovery. Love must spend the next three weeks on the shelf before being eligible to rejoin the active roster. He was a healthy scratch for the first three games of the year, so the offense is unlikely to be impacted by his absence.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Another healthy scratch

Love (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Week 3 against Cleveland. This is becoming the new norm for Love, who made the final roster but has yet to see the field through three weeks of action. Washington will again proceed with Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber as the lead backs this week against the Browns.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Not playing Sunday

Love (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Eagles. With Adrian Peterson out of the picture, Washington's backfield was unsettled with Love competing with rookie Antonio Gibson and veterans J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber. Love's placement on the Week 1 inactive list makes him the odd man out to start the campaign and pushes back his NFL debut. He has yet to suit up as a pro since he was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, the result of a torn ACL near the end of the 2018 season at Stanford.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: In Washington's backfield mix

With Adrian Peterson no longer in the mix, Sam Fortier and Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post project that Love will be one of four running backs Washington carries heading into Week 1. The others are rookie Antonio Gibson, pass-catching back J.D. McKissic and the bruising Peyton Barber, though it's possible the team could add another option via trade or through the waiver process. Love, a 2019 fourth-rounder, is working his way back from a knee injury that he suffered in college at Stanford, but when healthy, the 5-foot-9, 205-pounder could, in time, emerge as an option for every-down work for Washington. With that in mind, ESPN's John Keim relays that Love "has been practicing all summer and one source said this week" the team feels that "in a couple of months, he can perhaps get back to where he was in college." That projection bodes well for Love's chances of factoring in at some point this season, though early on, we'd expect the team utilize a committee approach, with Love's role to be determined.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Repping with starters

Love (knee) took first-team snaps during practice Wednesday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Adrian Peterson received a veteran's day off from practice, leaving Love, J.D. McKissic, Peyton Barber and Antonio Gibson on hand for backfield reps. Love looked to have worse than a 50-50 shot to make Washington's regular-season roster as recently as a few weeks ago, but with Derrius Guice no longer on the team, a strong start to training camp has the 2019 fourth-round pick right in the mix for a Week 1 role. Love spent his entire rookie campaign on injured reserve, after suffering a torn ACL toward the end of his final season at Stanford.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Hoping to earn role

Love (knee) could be a factor in the Washington backfield after Derrius Guice was released, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Washington still has five running backs in the mix for roster spots, and it's rare for an NFL team to carry more than four into Week 1. Love is a 2019 fourth-round pick coming back from a ACL tear that led to a redshirt rookie season, but he reportedly is making a strong impression in the early days of team activities. He'll try to make his mark in a backfield that also has Adrian Peterson, Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber.

  • Football Team's Bryce Love: Cleared for practice

Love (knee) passed a physical and should be ready for the start of training camp, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. The 2019 fourth-round pick spent his rookie season on injured reserve while recovering from an ACL tear he suffered in Dec. 2018 at Stanford. The injury required a follow-up surgery in October, but Love was able to resume training this past winter/spring, giving him plenty of time to ramp up before camp. He now finds himself battling for a roster spot in a crowded backfield, with Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber also jockeying for carries and targets.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Facing tough competition

Love (knee), J.D. McKissic and Derrius Guice are all candidates for passing-down snaps, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. With Love, Guice and Adrian Peterson already on the roster, it was a bit surprising to see Washington sign both McKissic and Peyton Barber during the first two weeks of free agency. There's still an opening on passing downs, but it appears Love will face tough competition for a spot on the 53-man roster, hoping to return strong after redshirting his rookie campaign. The 2019 fourth-round pick suffered an ACL tear in December 2018, then had a follow-up surgery in October to address stiffness in the same knee.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Prepping for OTAs

Love (knee) has resumed training and hopes to be ready for OTAs, Kyle Stackpole of the Redskins' official site reports. The 2019 fourth-round pick spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve while recovering from the ACL tear he suffered in December 2018 at Stanford. He had a follow-up surgery in October to address stiffness in his right knee, hoping to return to full strength before the 2020 offseason program. Love joins a crowded backfield with Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson battling for carries, but there may be an opening on passing downs if impending free agent Chris Thompson signs with a new team, as expected.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Hoping for role in 2020

Love (knee) could have a role on passing downs in 2020, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. As expected, the fourth-round pick missed his entire rookie season while rehabbing from the ACL tear he suffered December 2018 at Stanford, with the process including a cleanup surgery in October to address stiffness in his knee. A clean bill of health before the offseason program would give Love a nice opportunity to compete for a role on offense, especially if the Redskins choose not to re-sign impending free agents Chris Thompson and Wendell Smallwood. The team does have Derrius Guice (knee) and Adrian Peterson under contract, but the former hasn't been able to stay healthy and the latter will celebrate his 35th birthday in March.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Needs another surgery

Love is expected to undergo another cleanup surgery on his right knee Tuesday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Per Finlay, another surgery was always likely for the Stanford product, and Love currently is in Florida to see famed surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Love is working his way back from an ACL tear that he sustained in December and reportedly still is feeling stiffness in his knee. The rookie resides on the non-football injury list, and as evidenced by this news, he's considered a long shot to contribute during the 2019 season. The Redskins' backfield is currently extremely banged up, considering Derrius Guice (knee) is already on IR, Adrian Peterson suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's game and Chris Thompson is dealing with turf toe.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Opening season on PUP list

Head coach Jay Gruden said Monday that Love (knee) will open the season on the PUP list and that it's very possible that his 2019 campaign turns out to be a "redshirt year," John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Love, who is is currently on the Non-Football Injury list, sustained a torn ACL in December. The rookie fourth-round pick will have to sit on the PUP list (a move that will occur in advance of Week 1) for at least the first six weeks of the season, but he won't count against Washington's 53-man roster. If Love manages to return this season, he'll face a crowded running back room that includes Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice and Chris Thompson.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Lands on NFI list

Love (knee) will start training camp on the non-football injury list, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. The designation prevents Love from practicing and gives Washington the option to keep him on the team without occupying a spot on the 53-man roster for the first six weeks of the season. The team will no longer have that option if Love is removed from the PUP list later this summer. The rookie fourth-round pick suffered a torn ACL in December and now finds himself looking up at a crowded depth chart in Washington. He'll face an uphill battle to make any impact before mid-season.

  • Redskins' Bryce Love: Focused on rehab

Love (knee) will focus on rehab work this spring, Kyle Stackpole of the Redskins' official site reports. Love had surgery to repair a torn ACL in December after struggling through a disappointing senior campaign at Stanford. There was talk of the 2017 Heisman Trophy candidate going undrafted, but Washington picked him up early in the fourth round at No. 112 overall. Love won't participate in spring drills and will likely have limitations at the start of training camp in late July. With Derrius Guice (knee), Chris Thompson and Adrian Peterson on the roster, Washington doesn't have any reason to rush Love into action.
