Pottebaum was placed on the reserve/retired list Sunday.
Pottebaum signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in the spring. It's unclear why the 23-year-old has chosen to hang up his cleats, but the Steelers will retain his rights if he decides to get back on the field.
