Eagles' Tyree Jackson: Staying with Eagles into 2021
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jackson signed a reserve/future contract with Philadelphia on Thursday.

Jackson led the University of Buffalo to a 10-4 record as the program's starting quarterback in 2018, but the 23-year-old has yet to suit up in an NFL regular-season game since entering the league as an undrafted free agent. The Eagles bring Jackson into 2021, not as a QB, but as a developmental option at tight end.

Tyree Jackson: Gets workout call
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jackson tried out for the Packers on Monday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzer reports.

The rookie out of Buffalo failed to make his hometown Bills out of camp, but he's getting looks elsewhere. Jackson stands at a whopping 6-foot-7 and is seen as more of a developmental prospect at quarterback. The 21-year-old profiles as a practice squad candidate for the time being.

Tyree Jackson: Loses out in backup competition
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Bills cut Jackson on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of reports.

A local product who went undrafted out of Buffalo, Jackson attended training camp with the hope of securing a spot with the Bills as a developmental quarterback. The 21-year-old apparently didn't make enough of an impression to stick around on the 53-man roster, however, even after completing 22 of 33 attempts for 175 yards and a touchdown in the preseason finale versus Minnesota. The Bills may look to stash him on their practice squad if he goes unclaimed while on waivers.

Bills' Tyree Jackson: Leads comeback win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jackson completed 22 of 33 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's 27-23 win over Minnesota. He added 77 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, but fumbled twice.

Jackson had his sloppy moments, but his size and athleticism showed big in a game full of third-stringers. He also flashed some moxie late, capping off two touchdown drives in the game's final four minutes. On the first, Jackson scrambled and dove into the end zone for a six-yard score. Next, he stood tall in the pocket and delivered a dart to David Sills for a game-winning eight-yard touchdown. The Bills already have their quarterback of the future in Josh Allen and their steady veteran backup in Matt Barkley. Jackson could use some seasoning on the practice squad, but -- given the similarity in skillsets between he and Allen -- could be the team's future at QB2, though for now he has no chance of passing Barkley in 2019.

Bills' Tyree Jackson: Likely starter Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Sean McDermott says that while the decision is not finalized, Jackson likely will start Thursday in the team's preseason finale, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

We'd be pretty shocked if this didn't happen, as there's no way Josh Allen will see the field in a meaningless game, while backup Matt Barkley has been on fire all preseason and doesn't need to show anything more. Jackson will probably play quite a bit Thursday, and it may be a final audition for the undrafted rookie to show he deserves a spot on the active roster and not a practice squad.

Bills' Tyree Jackson: Rough welcoming to the pros
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jackson, who played the entire second half of Thursday's preseason win over the Colts, completed just two of 10 passes for 45 yards.

Jim Kubiak of The Buffalo News noted that the rookie looked "unsteady and visibly behind several read and throws." The 6-foot-7 Jackson has a monster arm and plenty of upside, but he's nowhere near No. 2 quarterback Matt Barkley at this stage, and his best hope for 2019 is if the Bills decide to roster three quarterbacks instead of two.

Bills' Tyree Jackson: One less competitor in Buffalo
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Derek Anderson has decided to retire from Buffalo, leaving the Bills with three quarterbacks for now -- Josh Allen, Matt Barkley and Jackson.

While there's almost no way the unpolished Jackson will unseat either of the top two, Anderson's departure puts the undrafted rookie that much closer to a roster spot instead of a practice squad situation. The Bills are currently in a "We have a lot of cap room so we'll keep spending it to rework the roster" mode, so it'd be a mild surprise if the team doesn't bring in one more QB ahead of summer work. As for Jackson, he has a lot in common with Allen -- big arm, good running skills and tons of size to help offset footwork and accuracy concerns -- so there's something for the Bills to work with if they want him in the QB room.

Bills' Tyree Jackson: Stays in Buffalo
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jackson, who went undrafted, signed with the Bills as a free agent immediately following Saturday's seventh round, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Jackson has tremendous upside to match his size (6-foot-7, 249 pounds) and was expected to get drafted in the later rounds as a project quarterback following a nice career at the University of Buffalo. While Josh Allen may have the Bills' top job for the next decade, Jackson will get a chance to compete for a spot on the team in 2019, with Derek Anderson no sure thing as a No. 3 quarterback at this stage of his career. At worst, Jackson makes for the perfect practice squadder. He has a cannon of an arm, but like many big, strong quarterbacks, he'll have to learn to be more accurate as a pro, while his throwing mechanics still need quite a bit of refinement.
