Rams' Cam Akers: Propels Rams' offense
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers rushed the ball 18 times for 90 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' divisional-round loss to the Packers on Saturday. He added one reception for six yards.

Akers' longest rush of the day went for 13 yards, though he managed to gain five or more yards on nine of his carries. He also converted the Rams' second touchdown of the contest, scoring from seven yards away on a direct snap. Though it took much of his rookie campaign, Akers established himself as the Rams' lead back by commanding at least 15 carries in each of his final six games -- dating back to the regular season. His role should only become more secure in 2021, as Malcolm Brown is set to hit free agency.

Rams' Cam Akers: Scores, piles 176 scrimmage yards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers carried 28 times for 131 yards and a touchdown while catching both his targets for 45 additional yards during Saturday's 30-20 win over the Seahawks.

With John Wolford (neck) leaving early and Jared Goff (thumb) battling through an injury of his own, Akers carried the offense as he piled up the second-most scrimmage yards in a single game in his young career. He averaged a healthy 4.7 yards per carry against an improved defensive front and made a splash with a team-long 44-yard reception as well. This was especially promising considering it was Akers' first playoff game and he will undoubtedly handle another large workload in the NFC divisional round. With that said, he will face a challenge against either the Packers or Buccaneers next week.

Rams' Cam Akers: Logs full practice Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

In Weeks 13 through 15, Akers established himself as the Rams' lead back, averaging 23 touches per game. He emerged from Week 15 with a high-ankle sprain and sat out Week 16 as a result, but upon his return to the lineup in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, he ripped off 86 yards from scrimmage on 25 touches. Now that he's bumped up from limited activity Tuesday to an uncapped session Wednesday, Akers is poised to pace L.A.'s backfield yet again in this weekend's wild-card game at Seattle.

Rams' Cam Akers: Limited on practice estimate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Akers returned in Week 17 from a high-ankle sprain after missing just one game. There was no indication that Akers was on a pitch count, as the rookie second-rounder logged 25 touches in the 18-7 win over the Cardinals, although his effectiveness was suspect with just 1.6 yards per carry. As long as Akers doesn't downgrade to non-participation for either of the next two sessions, he should be in the lineup for Saturday's wild-card showdown against the Seahawks.

Rams' Cam Akers: Garners 25 Week 17 touches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers totaled 34 yards on 21 carries while corralling all four of his targets for 52 receiving yards during Sunday's 18-7 win against Arizona. He also lost a fumble.

The second-round rookie had to battle through an ankle injury to suit up against the Cardinals, proving capable of overcoming a questionable tag despite logging just one limited session during the practice week. Though he posted his worst yards-per-carry average of the season, Akers was still provided with 20-plus rush attempts for the third time over his past four outings. Akers' contributions as a pass catcher, meanwhile, left him atop the team's Week 17 leaderboard in receiving yards. As Darrell Henderson (ankle) remains on IR for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs, Akers stands as Los Angeles' clear No. 1 back heading into a wild-card matchup against the Seahawks.

Rams' Cam Akers: Available Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) is active for Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Just two weeks removed from suffering a high-ankle sprain, Akers will be available as the Rams vie for slotting in the NFC playoff picture. With Darrell Henderson (ankle) on IR, the Rams may have been swayed by Akers practicing in a limited capacity Friday and not suffering an aggravation in the aftermath of the session. There's a chance Akers merely is available in case of an emergency, but if he serves beyond that capacity, he also could play second fiddle to a healthier Malcolm Brown out of L.A.'s backfield.

Rams' Cam Akers: Expected to try and play Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, is likely to try and play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After sitting out the Rams' Week 16 loss to the Seahawks with a high-ankle sprain, Akers sat out the team's first two Week 17 practices before he turned in a limited workout Friday. That was enough for Akers to garner the questionable tag heading into the weekend, and the rookie now appears to be gaining confidence that he'll be able to contribute in some capacity in the regular-season finale. Prior to getting hurt, Akers had been serving as the Rams' lead back, but he may only be in store for a limited role if active Week 17 since he'll be playing at less than 100 percent health. With Darrell Henderson (ankle) moving to injured reserve this week, Malcolm Brown now appears to be the top candidate to head the Los Angeles backfield Week 17.

Rams' Cam Akers: Questionable for Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) returned to practice Friday as a limited participant and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Akers suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 15 and didn't practice or play Week 16. He didn't seem likely to return for the regular-season finale, but the Rams are giving him a shot to suit up, after apparently being encouraged by what they saw Thursday during a workout and then Friday in a limited practice session. Fellow running back Darrell Henderson (ankle) is on injured reserve, so Malcolm Brown could be looking at a three-down role if Akers doesn't end up playing. The Rams are scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, needing a win or a Bears loss to reach the playoffs. Quarterback Jared Goff (thumb) and receiver Cooper Kupp (reserve/COVID-19 list) both will miss the game, and left tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) isn't expected to return from IR until the playoffs.

Rams' Cam Akers: Gets in workout Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Sean McVay said Akers (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, but the Rams haven't ruled him out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals after he fit in a workout, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Akers hasn't been seen in the portion of practices open to the media this week, but he appears to be making some progress through the high-ankle sprain that sidelined him Week 16. McVay likely wants Akers to get back on the field in some capacity Friday, at which point the Rams could make a determination on his status for the regular-season finale. If he's unable to suit up this weekend, L.A. will roll with Malcolm Brown as its lead back with Darrell Henderson on injured reserve due to his own high-ankle sprain.

Rams' Cam Akers: Logs DNP on Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) was estimated as a non-participant on Wednesday's injury report, Kevin Modesti of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Head coach Sean McVay relayed to Sarina Morales of the Rams' official site that Akers was "making great progress" with his high-ankle sprain, but McVay may have just meant the running back is doing well with the rehab process. Akers has two more opportunities to get on the practice field this week, as does fellow running back Malcolm Brown (shoulder), who was listed as limited Wednesday. With Darrell Henderson on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, the Rams seem to be leaning toward Brown as their starting running back Sunday against the Cardinals, even if Akers is able to gain clearance to play.

Rams' Cam Akers: Progressing through ankle sprain
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Head coach Sean McVay said Akers is "making great progress" in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain, but the running back remains uncertain for Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, Sarina Morales of the Rams' official site reports.

After Akers sustained his ankle injury Week 15 against the Jets, Darrell Henderson took on lead back duties this past Sunday versus the Seahawks and suffered the same exact injury. Henderson's sprain is considered more severe since the Rams already placed him on injured reserve, but Akers seems to have a chance to play in a key Week 17 contest. Akers' ability to practice in some capacity Wednesday would be a positive first step toward that end.

Rams' Cam Akers: Could return Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (ankle) could potentially be available for the Rams' regular-season finale against the Cardinals, J.B. Long of the Los Angeles Rams Radio Network reports.

Akers missed Week 16 after suffering a high-ankle sprain but could be rushed back ahead of schedule due to several other key injuries and a playoff spot on the line. Jared Goff (thumb) and Darrell Henderson (ankle) already have been ruled out for the contest. John Wolford will get the start under center and Malcolm Brown will be the primary back available to the Rams if Akers is unable to get the green light. Akers' situation will need to be monitored as the week progresses.

Rams' Cam Akers: Ruled out Week 16
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Jets and will be sidelined for the Rams' Week 16 matchup against the Seahawks as a result, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Akers followed up his career game Week 14 against the Patriots by leading the Rams in rushing again Sunday, but he also came out of the contest with an ankle injury. He's expected to be sidelined at least one game, but he could potentially miss more. Should Los Angeles ultimately secure a playoff spot this week, the decision for Week 17 would presumably become easier. Some combination of Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson figure to replace him in the backfield in Seattle.

Rams' Cam Akers: Leading rusher again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers carried the ball 15 times for 63 yards and lost one yard on his only reception (three targets) in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Jets.

While he wasn't able to repeat his huge performance from the week before, Akers was still clearly the Rams' No. 1 back, as no other Los Angeles player received more than one carry. The rookie will look to post better numbers during a Week 16 trip to Seattle that will likely decide the winner of the NFC West.

Rams' Cam Akers: Explodes for career-best effort
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (shoulder) rushed 29 times for 171 yards and brought in two of three targets for 23 yards in the Rams' 24-3 win over the Patriots on Thursday night.

The only blemish, if it could even be termed as such, on Akers' outstanding night was the fact he didn't get into the end zone, but otherwise, the rookie was as impressive as his numbers imply. The FSU product's long run of the night went for a relatively modest 35 yards, meaning Akers still averaged a robust 4.9 yards per carry on his other 28 totes. The 21-year-old had seemingly been groomed for the type of bell cow role he enjoyed Thursday by logging what was then a career-high 21 carries in the Week 13 win over the Cardinals, and his performance versus the Patriots naturally cements his role even further as the fantasy postseason kicks off. Akers will look to rest up from his heavy workload and then carry over the momentum of Thursday's effort into a Week 15 matchup against the Jets on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Rams' Cam Akers: Ready for Thursday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday and doesn't have a designation for Thursday's game against the Patriots, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.

Akers progressed from a non-participant Monday to limited activity Tuesday before he was cleared for the Rams' Week 14 contest. With his status not in question, he'll look to continue his recent success from the last two outings, in which he totaled 31 touches for 178 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. During that same stretch, Darrell Henderson had 15 touches for 93 total yards and one score, while Malcolm Brown was contained to 44 total yards on nine touches.

Rams' Cam Akers: On track to play Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that he expects Akers (shoulder) to play in Thursday's game versus the Patriots, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Akers took the field as a limited participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice after being listed as DNP on Monday. While the rookie running back earned the vote of confidence well in advance of Thursday's game, there is some concern that his reps could be managed following a condensed practice week, especially given McVay's inclination for a committee backfield. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown would both benefit from that approach. Regardless, Akers' practice capacity Wednesday is worth keeping an eye on in case of a setback.

Rams' Cam Akers: Practice reps capped Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (shoulder) practiced in a limited capacity Tuesday, Andrew Callahan of Boston Herald reports.

After being listed as DNP on Monday's practice estimate, Akers took the field in what Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic called a "glorified walkthrough." It's tough to draw any conclusions from Akers' practice status under those circumstances. It's possible that he's being limited for maintenance purposes after logging a career-high 22 touches in this past Sunday's win over the Cardinals. On a shortened week, though, it's concerning that he's not at full speed with a Thursday matchup against the Patriots on the docket. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown would see additional touches if Akers ends up sitting out.

Rams' Cam Akers: DNP on Monday's practice estimate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers (shoulder) was listed as non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Akers paced the Rams backfield by a large margin Sunday at Arizona, earning 52 offensive snaps to Darrell Henderson's 18 and Malcolm Brown's 13. The result for Akers was 21 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown to go with a 22-yard catch on his only target, while Henderson and Brown combined for nine touches, 101 yards from scrimmage and one TD. Unfortunately for Akers, he's dealing with the residual effects of his largest workload of the season, meaning his status will be one to monitor as Thursday's game against the Patriots approaches.

Rams' Cam Akers: Leads backfield against Cards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Akers carried the ball 21 times for 72 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for 22 yards in Sunday's 38-28 win over the Cardinals.

Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown combined for only six carries and nine touches, marking the second straight week in which Akers has been the Rams' most productive RB. The rookie will look to continue his climb to the top spot on the depth chart in Week 14 against a surging Patriots defense that just shut out the Chargers.
