Weddle is signing with the Rams, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
Released by Baltimore on Tuesday, the 34-year-old safety didn't take long to find a new team. Weddle figures to replace starting free safety LaMarcus Joyner, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins Wednesday.
Weddle intends to play football in 2019, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
At one point Weddle hinted he would retire once his time was over in Baltimore, but he apparently wants to continue playing after being released by the Ravens on Tuesday. Widely viewed as the leader of an excellent Baltimore secondary, the 34-year-old safety dropped off considerably from a statistical perspective in 2018, recording three passes defensed and zero interceptions. Weddle still should draw plenty of interest in the coming weeks, as his leadership and football IQ largely make up for subpar range.
The Ravens released Weddle on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Weddle joins a crowded field at safety after a three-year run with Baltimore that resulted in Pro-Bowl appearances each season. The 34-year-old remains at the top of his game and should garner significant interest on the open market.
Weddle has stated a desire to return to the Ravens in 2019.
Weddle totaled the third-fewest tackles of his career in 2018 (68) and failed to come up with an interception for just the second time in 12 seasons. While he explained he still has a desire to play, it's not certain that Baltimore will want to keep him around, given his $8.25 million cap hit in 2019. If the Ravens ultimately decide to part ways, it seems Weddle is prepared to announce his retirement.
Weddle recorded eight tackles (seven solo), including a sack, in Sunday's loss to Cleveland.
Weddle has yet to record his first interception of the year, but he managed his first sack of the campaign while also racking up a season high in tackles Sunday. Though the Ravens didn't win, the defense played well, holding the Browns to 12 points in almost 70 minutes of action. Baltimore will look to bounce back next week against Tennessee.
Weddle collected 63 tackles, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles over 16 games in 2017.
Another year, another Pro Bowl for Weddle, who'll be heading to his fifth-career Pro Bowl and his fourth in the last five seasons. His ball-hawking ability netted him six interceptions, which marks the second-highest output of his career. It is worth noting that Weddle wasn't quite as active in defending the run this season as his tackles fell from 89 to a career-low 63, although some of that role change can be attributed to the addition of noted box safety Tony Jefferson. With Jefferson signed to be in Baltimore for the foreseeable future, it's reasonable to think that Weddle's floor in IDP formats will be a bit lower as he won't be asked to stick his nose in the run game as much as previous years. He's still a playmaker in the secondary that can rack up interceptions, but the lightened week-to-week tackle production probably knocks Weddle down from the elite tier of IDP safeties.
Widdle posted two tackles, one pass breakup and one interception in Sunday's game against the Browns.
Weddle played all 64 defensive snaps Sunday, but his low tackle count is troubling. He often needs the support of picks to shore up his fantasy value, so Weddle should only be deployed in turnover-friendly matchups. With the Colts, who have allowed just 15 turnovers in 14 games, on the horizon, Weddle looks to be best suited for the bench.
Weddle compiled three tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one pick six in Sunday's win against the Lions.
Weddle played 60 of 62 defensive snaps on the way to his diversified stat line. The 32-year-old safety now has 52 tackles, seven pass breakups and five interceptions this campaign, but he has a tough Week 14 matchup in Pittsburgh on the horizon. However, Weddle thrived in his first meeting with the Steelers in 2017, accruing a season-high eight tackles, two pass breakups and one interception.
Weddle had four tackles (all solo) and an interception in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Titans.
Weddle played all 52 defensive snaps for the Ravens on Sunday, and the interception was his third of the season. The 32-year-old remains an important part of the Ravens' secondary and has shown minimal signs of slowing down.
Weddle (ankle) is listed as active for Thursday's game against the Dolphins.
Weddle presumably came out of Sunday's loss to the Vikings with an ankle injury, which ultimately drew him a questionable designation on the short week. However, the issue was never considered serious, and he should take on his usual role on the defense barring any setbacks.
Weddle (ankle) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Dolphins.
Weddle practiced in full capacity Wednesday, so it's expected that he'll be given the green light to play come Thursday. Lardarius Webb would be the next man up if Weddle is ultimately ruled out, however.
Weddle had seven tackles and a pass defensed in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
The 32-year-old Weddle played every defensive snap and was a force against both the pass and against the run. He recorded at least seven tackles for the second week in a row and is starting to get back to being one of the more reliable defensive backs in IDP formats.
Weddle netted his second interception of the season in Sunday's 26-9 loss to the Steelers and also chipped in a season-high eight tackles.
The veteran safety made an excellent instinctual play to haul in a ball that popped out of Antonio Brown's grasp and into Weddle's hands for the pick. What's more, Weddle was more active as a tackler Sunday, doubling his previous season high. Weddle's production through the first quarter of the season is roughly in line with what he was able to do last year, a campaign in which he finished with 89 tackles and four interceptions.
Weddle (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN reports.
The reason for Weddle's absence from practice Wednesday wasn't revealed, but it looks like it was just a minor illness. Expect the safety to be a full go for Baltimore this weekend.
Weddle (leg) isn't practicing Wednesday, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Weddle appeared to hurt his left leg on one of the final plays of last Sunday's season opener. The severity of his injury remains unknown, however.
Weddle picked off his fourth pass of the season Monday and added a team-high 11 total tackles in the loss to the Patriots.
Weddle made his presence felt once again Monday as he picked off his second pass in as many weeks. Moreover, he was strong in run support and racked up a season-high 11 tackles (six solo, five assisted), including one sack. According to Pro Football Focus, Weddle was Baltimore's highest graded defender in Monday's loss. He figures to be busy again Sunday when the Ravens face the Eagles' quick passing attack.
Weddle (concussion) practiced in full on Wednesday.
Weddle left the Ravens' Week 4 game with a concussion and has already progressed through concussion protocol. He should be set to play Sunday against the Redskins.
Weddle exited the Ravens' Week 4 loss to the Raiders with a concussion.
Weddle only notched one tackle before leaving and now will enter the NFL's concussion protocol in advance of Week 5. He should be considered questionable to play at this point, but his participation in practice throughout the week will shed more light on the situation.
Weddle had four tackles (all solo) and two passes defensed in Sunday's win over Jacksonville.
Weddle and fellow starting safety Lardarius Webb have both played every defensive snap through three weeks, but neither has turned the playing time into impressive tackle totals. Weddle does at least have four passes defensed and an interception to complement his 13 tackles (12 solo), whereas Webb has just six tackles (all solo) and one pass defensed.
Weddle intercepted a pass and added six tackles Sunday against the Browns.
Weddle made his first impact play with his new team, and he's now recorded a total of 10 tackles in his two games with the Ravens. With a solid cast around him, he should be able to boost his tackle numbers as he gains chemistry with his teammates.
