Cody Corbett: Not extended qualifying offer
Corbett failed to receive a qualifying offer from the Capitals and will become an unrestricted free agent, Mike Vogel of NHL.com reports.
Corbett was acquired by the Capitals at the start of March in a trade with the Avalanche, but Washington still didn't give the defenseman a qualifying offer Monday. The two sides can continue to negotiate an extension over the next few days, but Corbett will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and will be free to sign anywhere. Corbett has yet to play in a game at the NHL level.

Capitals' Cody Corbett: Traded to Washington
Corbett was acquired by the Capitals on Wednesday, with Joe Cannata heading to the Avalanche.
A no-frills depth defender, Corbett went undrafted and has since been paying his dues at hockey's lower levels. The Minnesota native appeared in 30 games between the ECHL's Colorado Eagles and the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL, tacking on four goals, 11 assists and 12 PIM. While it should be a boon for Corbett's development that he's moving to a quality organization, the Capitals are loaded with playmaking defensemen -- especially with the team having pried away stud blueliner Kevin Shattenkirk from the Blues on Monday -- so it could be a while before Corbett emerges as a full-time NHLer; he may start out with AHL Hershey.
