  • Oilers' Matt Savoie: Tucks empty-netter

Savoie scored an empty-net goal on two shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Panthers. Savoie ended a four-game point drought with the final tally of this contest. The 21-year-old is still listed on the top line, but his 13:47 of ice time suggests he won't be seeing much prominent usage moving forward. That lineup also included Zach Hyman on the third line, which wasn't reflected in either player's usage. Savoie has six points, 31 shots on net and a minus-5 rating through 24 appearances, so he should be able to challenge for at least a 20-point campaign.

  • Oilers' Matt Savoie: Scores vs. Columbus

Savoie scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jackets. Savoie found the back of the net at the 8:09 mark of the second period with a tip-in, ending a six-game stretch in which he'd been unable to find the back of the net. Savoie has only two goals this season, but he should continue to have chances to produce as long as he skates alongside Connor McDavid on the first line. The 21-year-old Savoie has four points across his last eight games.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Two helpers against Philly

Savoie picked up two assists in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Flyers. After helping to set up an Evan Bouchard tally in the final minute of the first period, Savoie worked a two-on-none break with Jack Roslovic in OT that produced the game-winner. It was Savoie's first multi-point performance of the season, and so far his spot on an even-strength line with Connor McDavid hasn't resulted in much offense for the 21-year-old -- Wednesday's effort snapped a five-game point drought, and Savoie has just one goal and four points in 18 contests to begin his first full NHL campaign.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Scores first career goal

Savoie scored a power-play goal in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers. Savoie's goal was the first of his NHL career, and it put the Oilers ahead 2-1 in the second period. The 21-year-old has been a regular in the lineup this season, but he's yet to find much success on offense. He's at two points, 13 shots on net, eight blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through 12 appearances in a middle-six role. However, he's earned some trust on the defensive side of things, as he's seeing regular penalty-killing minutes, which will go a long way to keeping him in the lineup.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Snags helper Tuesday

Savoie produced a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Senators. The Oilers had their second power-play unit on the ice during overtime, and Savoie cashed in with a helper on Jake Walman's winning tally. The assist was Savoie's first point in seven appearances this season, and it was his second helper in 12 career games. The 21-year-old has slotted into a middle-six role and racked up 10 shots on net, five blocked shots, two hits and a minus-1 rating so far this year. He's averaging just 13:16 of ice time per game, so he'll need to see an uptick in ice time to emerge as a more reliable scorer in fantasy.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Set for team debut

Savoie will be recalled from AHL Bakersfield ahead of Saturday's game versus the Flyers, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports. Savoie is expected to make his Oilers debut and just his second NHL appearance in the contest. The 21-year-old is projected to play alongside Leon Draisaitl at even strength, though many forwards in the Oilers' top six occasionally see shifts skipped. Savoie has excelled in the AHL this season to the tune of 37 points over 45 appearances and has been practicing with the big club this week prior to his call-up becoming official.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Knocking on the door

Savoie has been lighting it up at the AHL level of late with 22 points in his last 20 games, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports. Savoie was acquired from Buffalo on July 5 for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. Savoie was selected ninth overall in 2022 by the Sabres, who gave up quickly on the prospect. In his rookie season, Savoie has 12 goals and 22 assists in 43 AHL games in 2024-25.

  • Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Changes teams

Savoie was acquired by the Oilers from the Sabres on Friday in exchange for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton. Savoie had 19 goals and 47 points across 23 regular-season contests with WHL Moose Jaw in 2023-24 and then provided another 10 goals and 24 points across 19 playoff outings. He also got his first taste of NHL action Nov. 10 with Buffalo, though he logged just 3:55 of ice time in that appearance and didn't record a shot or point. The 20-year-old was selected by the Sabres with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. While he has plenty of potential, Savoie shouldn't be counted on to make an impact with Edmonton in 2024-25.

  • Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Sent to AHL for conditioning

Savoie (shoulder) was sent to AHL Rochester on Sunday for a conditioning assignment. Savoie could see some game action in the minors after getting injured during Buffalo's Prospects Challenge finale against Pittsburgh on Sept. 18. If he doesn't see NHL action after being cleared, he may eventually end up being loaned back to the WHL to play for Wenatchee. The 19-year-old forward amassed 38 goals and 95 points in 62 WHL contests last campaign.

Savoie (shoulder) is expected to practice next week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports. The 19-year-old was injured during a prospects game earlier in the month, but he remains on track to get back to practicing with the Sabres. • Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Sustains shoulder injury

Savoie suffered a shoulder injury in Buffalo's prospects game Monday versus Pittsburgh, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Savoie is expected to miss at least some of training camp, which would put his chances of making the NHL roster in jeopardy. The 19-year-old had 95 points in 62 games with WHL Winnipeg last season, and if he doesn't make the Sabres' roster out of camp, he'll be assigned back to the junior franchise, which relocated to Wenatchee, Washington in the offseason. Savoie does not have an exception to jump immediately to the AHL.

  • Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Looking good in training camp

Savoie is impressing coach Don Granato in training camp, according to Buffalo Hockey Beat. Savoie was the Sabres' first pick and ninth overall in the 2022 Entry Draft and has impressed Granato with his skill level so much so that the coach used him between Kyle Okposo and Casey Mittelstadt in Thursday's win over the Flyers. Savoie had 35 goals and 90 points last season with the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL and is expected to be even better when the Sabres return him to junior hockey in the foreseeable future.
