Anaheim at Vancouver

Venue: General Motors Place
  •

The streaking Vancouver Canucks' stellar play could be put to the test Wednesday night, given how the club's first two matchups with the Anaheim Ducks went.

These teams have split two exciting games, and the Canucks will be looking for a seventh straight victory when they host the Ducks.

Vancouver is 25-3-6 in its last 34 games - a stretch that includes a 5-4 shootout win over Anaheim on Dec. 8. The Canucks (35-10-9) won eight straight from Dec. 23-Jan. 7, and have put together another extended run by outscoring opponents 27-8 in the last six contests.

Vancouver has gone 11-0-4 in its last 15 at home.

The Ducks (29-21-4), though, have won three straight on the road and beat Vancouver 4-3 in their home opener Oct. 13 behind a goal and three assists from Ryan Getzlaf.

Both teams excel on the power play, with Vancouver at 24.2 percent and Anaheim at 24.0. That was also the case in the first two meetings, with the Canucks going 4 for 10 and the Ducks 4 for 9.

Vancouver's opponents are 0 for 26 on the power play during the win streak.

Roberto Luongo has gone 9-0-3 with a 1.78 goals-against average in his last 12 home starts, a stretch that began with the December win over the Ducks. He made 31 saves in a 4-2 home victory over Ottawa on Monday.

"At the end of the day, our goaltender was real good again," coach Alain Vigneault said.

The Canucks showcased their depth on a night when the Sedin brothers, who have produced 135 points - the most by any Western Conference teammates - combined for one.

Mikael Samuelsson had two goals and an assist, giving him nine points during a four-game streak, and has five goals and six assists in his last six contests. Ryan Kesler had a goal and an assist while Mason Raymond added three assists as the second line produced eight points.

"We are using each other, give-and-goes, cycles," Kesler said. "Using our strengths to our advantage, which is speed, shooting the puck and going to the net."

The Sedins have totaled five points in the two meetings with the Ducks. Luongo, though, has a 3.90 GAA in the two games for his highest mark against an opponent he has faced twice this season.

The Canucks will be without defenseman Keith Ballard, who suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee Monday and will miss three to four weeks.

Curtis McElhinney stopped 25 shots for his second shutout and Corey Perry had a hat trick in a 3-0 victory at Colorado on Monday. Perry, coming off his second All-Star appearance, became the first Ducks player to score all three of his team's goals in a win.

"Unselfish," Perry said. "That's how we're continuing our success, unselfish play."

All-Star goalie Jonas Hiller was scratched due to fatigue and lightheadedness. McElhinney filled in admirably in his first start since Jan. 16.

"The goaltending on our hockey club has been one of our strongest suits," coach Randy Carlyle said. "Today is another example of proving that."

Hiller has gone 6-3-0 with a 2.76 GAA in nine career starts against the Canucks while McElhinney is 0-0-1 with a 3.58 GAA in two.

Teemu Selanne has five points during his team's road win streak, and seven in his last four games against Vancouver.
