Los Angeles at Dallas

Kings 1, Stars 1

DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars stretched their home unbeaten streak to nine games Wednesday night, but they felt they left a point on the ice.

Alexander Frolov's goal with 5:55 left in regulation lifted the Los Angeles Kings into a 1-1 tie with the Stars.

Holding the lead with less than six minutes remaining, the Stars were in good shape to pick up two points for a victory. Dallas is 55-0-7 over its last 62 games when ahead after two periods, the longest current streak in the league.

"Anytime you give up the lead, you're disappointed," said left wing Brenden Morrow, whose goal midway through the second period had given the Stars the lead. "We've been successful leading after two periods and this feels a bit like a loss."

Dallas goaltender Marty Turco seemed headed for his second straight shutout before Frolov's 20th goal. Dallas is 6-0-3 in its last nine home games.

Frolov skated in alone on the right side and lifted the puck into the upper right corner of the net from low in the right circle.

"I didn't give myself a great chance to stop the puck," said Turco, who has allowed one goal or less in 19 of his 41 starts. "It's a goal. You like to make saves for the guys and it's too bad I couldn't do it this time."

Frolov has been a key player for the injury-depleted Kings.

"It was a big goal for us," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "The game's on the line there. He breaks through a couple of guys, pushes his way to the net and scores. He's a great player. He's a horse. It's nice to see him take over. He's young, he's got a lot of energy and he's got a lot of skill."

Turco, who stopped 26 shots, salvaged the tie with a tumbling save against Michael Cammalleri from close range with 1:02 remaining in regulation.

The Stars matched the New York Islanders for the NHL's longest current home streak. Dallas is 11-3-3 in its last 17 games.

"This is a bad tie," said Stars defenseman Don Sweeney. "We didn't play well enough from start to finish or nearly as soundly as we have the past two games."

The Kings are unbeaten in their last three (2-0-1).

"We know how well Dallas has played at home of late, so looking back, yeah, we're happy being down for most of the game and then coming back late to get a point," Kings defenseman Mattias Norstrom said.

The Stars have 71 points, five behind first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division. The Kings are third, trailing the Sharks by six points.

Kings goaltender Cristobal Huet had 26 saves in the final meeting between the teams this season. The season series finished 2-2-2.

Morrow scored his 19th midway in the second period, shooting from the high slot. The puck got past Huet with the help of traffic in front of the net from Jason Arnott and Bill Guerin.

But the Stars were unable to extend the lead.

"We needed to get the next one," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "But they are a hardworking team. If you don't match their work ethic, it'll be a dogfight."

Stars center Mike Modano missed the final two periods with a strained groin sustained in the first period. Modano started the night fourth on the team in goals (12) and tied for third in assists (22).

Modano is listed as day-to-day.

Notes

  • Former Stars LW Jon Sim was among the Kings' scratches.
  • Dallas RW David Oliver was scratched due to a sore back.
  • Retired Detroit Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman watched the game from a luxury suite.
