ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Anaheim Ducks are taking advantage of their longest homestand of the season.
Teemu Selanne and Andy McDonald scored two goals apiece, and Scott Niedermayer added three assists to lead the Ducks to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
Corey Perry also scored and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 shots for the Ducks, who moved within one point of Detroit for tops in the league.
"It was a great team win, Bryz played great and our power play was obviously clicking," Anaheim left wing Chris Kunitz said. "We had all four lines going, when we flow like that and get good offense early on, we tend to win."
Anaheim has earned 13 points while going 6-0-1 in the first seven games of an eight-game homestand that concludes Sunday against Los Angeles.
"It was a key win for us tonight, to be able to come out and play the way we knew how, and the way we played early in the season," said McDonald who had two assists, giving 16 points in his last 10 games.
McDonald also was involved in a late game skirmish with Chicago forward Patrick Sharp.
"It was a physical game, this team responds well when we play physical, I think it kind of wakes us up," McDonald said.
With the victory, the Ducks matched a franchise record for points (98), set last season.
Rene Bourque and Jason Williams scored power-play goals for the Blackhawks.
"It was a tough game, they are a good team," Chicago coach Denis Savard said. "We spent a lot of energy battling back in L.A. (on Thursday), and this was our third game in four nights. It was a tough night."
Niedermayer increased his total to 62 points (12 goals, 50 assists), moving past Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom (60 points) for the scoring lead among defensemen.
Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin struggled while playing in the second of back-to-back games. He gave up five goals on the Ducks' first 17 shots before being replaced by Patrick Lalime in the second period.
The Ducks scored three times on their first five power-play opportunities.
"They're a good team, it doesn't take them much when you give them a little bit of room," Lalime said. "They have a good power play and we paid for it."
Selanne opened the scoring 3:31 into the game. Perry made it 2-0 with a power-play score at 9:06, and Selanne added his second with the man-advantage at 16:45.
McDonald made it 5-0 with two goals in a span of 3:13 in the second period, the latter on a power play at 13:00.
Chicago had won four of its last five games, and has split the four games of its five-game trip.
"We've played some good teams on the road, we're getting a better effort overall," Lalime said.
