CALGARY, Alberta -- Martin Havlat and the Minnesota Wild found a way to earn two points against Miikka Kiprusoff and the Calgary Flames.

Havlat scored at 3:15 of overtime to give the Wild to a 2-1 victory over the Flames on Friday.

Havlat took a cross-ice pass from defenseman Marek Zidlicky and fired a shot behind Kiprusoff, who had no chance on the play.

"We played hard for 60 minutes, or 65," Havlat said. "I don't know how many we played, but everybody did a great job. ... We started very good. I think tonight we just kept it going until the last second. I think we played one of the best games we have played so far this year."

James Sheppard also scored for Minnesota. The Wild have won two in a row and seven of their past eight games to improve to 15-13-3.

Aaron Johnson scored for Calgary.

Kiprusoff had a spectacular game, stopping 44 of 46 shots he faced to help the Flames earn a point.

"It's a shame to waste a performance like that," Calgary assistant coach Dave Lowry said. "He gave us every opportunity to win."

Fellow Finnish goalie Niklas Backstrom made 22 saves for the Wild to improve his record to 13-10-3.

The Wild carried the majority of the play in the first period, outshooting the Flames 19-3. Kiprusoff turned aside three shots each by Wild forwards Mikko Koivu and Guillaume Latendresse and defenseman Kim Johnsson.

Notes

  • Calgary has scored the first goal in 24 of 31 games this season.
  • Calgary defenseman Jay Bouwmeester extended the NHL's longest current consecutive games streak to 373.
