2016 Outlook: Doug Fister
Doug Fister
Raise your hand if you still believe in Doug Fister. You'll probably find more takers for Bigfoot at this point. The soft-tossing 31-year-old's two-year stint in Washington ended with his banishment to the bullpen, not to mention a high ERA, largely because a forearm issue that made him even a softer tosser. The combined impact of that injury and a strained shoulder early in 2014 really cut into his strikeout rate as well. He used to at least approach seven per nine, but now he resides in the mid-fives, which is bottom-of-the-barrel for a starting pitcher these days. He does enter 2016 with relief pitcher eligibility, so he pretty much has to be drafted in Head-to-Head points leagues as a projected starter for the Astros, but it should be late since his diminishing skills may not allow him to reverse this trend.
