Angels' Brendan Ryan: Designated for assignment

Ryan was designated for assignment by the Angels after Friday's game, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

With Cliff Pennington (hamstring) ready to return from the DL, the team went ahead and bumped Ryan, who failed to record a hit in 11 at-bats with the Angels. Now 34 years old, Ryan may have played his last game in the majors, but he's capable of filling an organizational depth need.
