Mets' R.J. Alvarez: Called up from Triple-A

Alvarez was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez was called up Friday to take the roster spot of Chris Bassitt (illness), who was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Alvarez has produced a 2.49 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 29 punchouts over 25.1 innings in Triple-A this year. He'll likely operate as a low-leverage bullpen option for the time being.
