Cave was placed on waivers by the Reds on Thursday, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

In order to keep Cave in the organization, the Rule 5 draft pick had to stay on the 25-man roster throughout the season, although it appears his .220 batting average did not warrant a spot with the Reds. In order to be sent back to the Yankees, Cave must clear waivers, so he can be claimed by any other team in the meantime. That being said, if a team does decide to claim the outfielder, he'll have to stay on their active roster for the entire season to avoid being sent back to the Bronx. Regardless of what happens, Cave will have a tough time finding playing time, especially if he continues to hit at such low clip. This development means that Jordan Pacheco, Scott Schebler, and Jose Peraza are likely to make the Reds Opening Day roster.
