Clevenger elected free agency Friday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Clevenger was outrighted to Triple-A on Wednesday, but it comes as no surprise that he declined that decision after the tumultuous end to his tenure in Seattle. The 30-year-old took a step back at the plate during the 2016 season, so it might be tough for him to be anything more than a backup catcher heading into 2017.
