McCann took reps at first base Thursday, the New York Post reports.

The Yankees have no natural backup to Mark Teixeira after Greg Bird went down for the season in the spring, so putting McCann at first base allows his bat to stay in the lineup more often while not taxing his legs with catching duties. The catcher likely won't see too much time at first but did play 10 games there in 2015 and 16 games at first the season before, so he may pick up extra positional eligibility at some point in 2016.
