Splitter has elected to undergo season-ending surgery on his right hip, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Splitter has been nagged by the injury off and on this season, missing chunks of games periodically, including six consecutive contests leading up to the All-Star break. After seeking a second opinion, Splitter will undergo surgery, and while the Hawks haven't released an official recovery timetable, the procedure will keep him sidelined through the end of the 2015-16 campaign. The Hawks are hopeful Splitter will be ready to go when training camp opens in the fall, but for the remainder of the season, it looks like Mike Muscala and Mike Scott will be tasked will assuming more frontcourt minutes off the bench.
