The Red Sox have a plan in place to use Brandon Workman as Wednesday's starter if Jon Lester is scratched due to ongoing trade talks, MLB.com reports.
"Although there's a lot of rumor and talk with his name attached to it, right now he's scheduled to start tomorrow night," manager John Farrell said Tuesday. "We have a contingency plan, sure. If Jon is traded by this time tomorrow [4 p.m.], Brandon Workman will start."
Lester has been a hot name in trade rumors this month, with the Red Sox out of the playoff race and the pitcher due to become a free agent this offseason.
