Mets starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka made his first start since Oct. 3, 2012, as he faced the Tigers.

Matsuzaka did not look strong in the start, as he was tagged for five runs in five innings of work and took the loss. He did improve as the game went on, however, finishing with three scoreless innings in a row. He allowed his five runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out four and throwing 57 of 86 pitches for strikes.

Matsuzaka is expected to remain in the rotation moving forward, with his next start scheduled for Wednesday against the Phillies.
