Indians outfielder David Murphy swung the bat 40 times both Friday and Saturday, his first such action since going on the disabled list with a strained oblique, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

"I really feel like I turned a corner three or four days ago," Murphy said Saturday. "Everyday life stuff like turning over in bed, carrying groceries, it wasn't bothering me. Now it's time to ease into the baseball intensity stuff. I took 40 dry swings today and that went well. I don't know my exact timeline, but I feel the progression they have me on is working."

Out since Aug. 9, Murphy is a candidate to rejoin the team when rosters expand in September.
