Gary Cederstrom appointed crew chief for 2015 World Series
The umpiring crew for the 2015 World Series has been announced. Veteran ump Gary Cederstrom has been appointed crew chief.
MLB announced the seven-man umpiring crew for the 2015 World Series on Monday morning. There are six umpires on the field -- home plate, one at each base, plus two down the lines in the outfield -- plus the replay umpire at MLB's central office in New York.
Here's the umpire crew for this year's Fall Classic:

Cederstrom, who also worked the World Series in both 2005 and 2011, is the World Series crew chief for the first time in his career. He was also the crew chief for this year's NLDS between the Mets and Dodgers.
This is the first World Series assignment for Bill Welke, Mark Carlson and Jim Wolf. Congrats to them. All three guys waited at least 14 years for this opportunity.
According to the press release, Welke and his older brother Tim are the second set of brothers to umpire in the World Series, joining Mark and John Hirschbeck. Tim has worked the World Series four times in his career (1996, 2000, 2003, 2008).
MLB considers several factors when selecting World Series umpires, including their regular season performance and experience. These are the best umps the league has to offer, basically.
