Making his second attempt at picking up save no. 42 Sunday, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew a save opportunitiy for the second straight game but wound up getting the win in his team's 4-3 victory over the Red Sox.
Rivera gave up an earned run on a ninth-inning solo home run, one of two hits against the closer in two innings of work. He also struck out three and walked none while moving to 5-2. Rivera owns a 2.28 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 50:9 K:BB ratio while converting 41 of 48 save opportunities.
