The Mariners are making progress towards a deal with free-agent catcher John Buck, and an agreement is close, FOX Sports 1 reports.

Buck hit .219/.285/.362 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 392 at-bats with the Mets and Pirates last season. Were he to sign with Seattle, Buck would likely serve as the backup to second-year backstop Mike Zunino.
