Few things say "upper Midwest" quite like contriving new ways to stuff cured meats down one's gullet. So it is with a not-insubstantial sense of regional pride that I, an Illinoisian not by birth but rather by inclination, present this urgent dispatch from the AP/Detroit News ...

Those who come to see the West Michigan Whitecaps play will have the opportunity to chow down on a Baco, a taco with a specially made bacon shell.

The Baco was the top vote-getter in the fourth annual Whitecaps food contest, which determines Fifth Third Ballpark's next culinary delight.

It's a taco, you see, wrapped in bacon. Try this at home: Take taco filling and then put it in bacon. It's a Baco. Once more, with feeling: Take taco filling, put it -- "it" being the taco filling -- in bacon. Baco, is what it is. Baco.

The greatest miracle of all is that a team in Wisconsin didn't think of this first.
