Video: The best catch you may ever see
Not only was Derrick Salberg's catch spectacular, he came it when his Washington community college team needed it the most.
There are amazing catches and then there's this catch from Lower Columbia College's Derrick Salberg. With his team holding a 4-2 lead with two outs and one on in the ninth inning of the first round of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament, Salberg did this on a shot by Everett's Keone Kela:
"By far the best catch I've ever made," Salberg told Rick McCorkle of the Daily News in Longview, Wash.
You think?
Forget the level of play, that's as good of a catch under the circumstances as you will ever see at any level.
Pitcher Brandon Boyle put it more succinctly -- "it definitely saved my butt."
Also major props to Daily News photographer Bill Wagner for his fantastic photos of the catch.
Jeff Passan at Yahoo has a fantastic story about Salberg, his coach and the 4-foot wall.
