  • Twins' Tommy Field: Reassigned to minor league camp

Field was reassigned to minor league camp on Tuesday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.

This was expected, as the Twins continue to make roster cuts, and Field had no obvious avenue to a role on the big-league roster. He will serve as organizational depth at Triple-A, where he has spent most of the past five seasons.

Field signed a minor league deal with a spring training invite with the Twins on Thursday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.

Field didn't reach the majors in 2016 and hit .235/.313/.413 with 11 home runs at the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in Rochester. The 29-year-old will likely be on the outside looking in for a major league roster spot in spring training.

  • Tigers' Tommy Field: Goes 0-for-3 in Toledo's Opening Day rout

Field went 0-for-3 and scored a run with a 1:1 BB:K in Triple-A Toledo's 10-2 win over Louisville on Thursday.

Field didn't have a noticeable spring, going 4-for-24 with a pair of runs scored and his only RBI coming off of a solo home run. Even if Field had a great spring, he still would've been behind Dixon Machado on the call-up list, as Machado is Detroit's prized middle infield prospect.

  • Tigers' Tommy Field: Minor league deal with Tigers

Field signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, MLive.com reports.

The 28-year-old was given a brief look with the Rangers early last season, but failed to impress and was ultimately designated for assignment. He did fare far better with Triple-A Round Rock (.247/.347/.439) and has earned a chance to compete for a job with Detroit as a result, but chances are Field will start the year back in the minors.
