He gave up five runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two in 5.2 innings of long relief in his Royals debut last weekend. This means he is properly stretched out, but extremely risky for fantasy purposes. Garcia may only be making a spot start, as it is unclear when Danny Duffy (elbow) will be able to return to the rotation.

Garcia, making his first MLB appearance since 2013, allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks over 5.2 innings in relief Sunday against Cleveland.
Starter Eric Skoglund was hammered for seven runs over 1.1 innings, opening the door for Garcia to make his Royals debut. The 28-year-old lefty allowed two home runs -- including a grand slam -- before recording an out, but he settled in and tossed 5.2 scoreless frames from there. Garcia will likely get his fair share of innings, as the club wants to get a good look at him, but he shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value while working out of the bullpen.

Garcia will take the roster spot of Danny Duffy (elbow), who was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding move. The 28-year-old has just 1.1 innings of big-league experience to his name, so he likely won't pitch in anything other than low-leverage situations. He recently shifted into Omaha's starting rotation, compiling a 4.89 ERA across 10 starts, so he'll be able to offer length out of the Royals' bullpen.

Royals' Onelki Garcia: Signs minor league pact with Royals
Garcia signed a minor league contract with the Royals on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Garcia, a former third-round draft pick by the Dodgers, finished the 2016 season in the Mexican League prior to this signing. The 27-year-old is a strikeout pitcher as evidenced by his 11.3 K/9 with the White Sox Triple-A affiliate in 2015, but he lacks control, which could limit his ability to rise into the major league ranks.
