  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Should be ready for Opening Day

Manager Scott Servais said Saturday that Crawford (foot) will "be ready to go" for Seattle's Opening Day matchup with Cleveland on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The veteran shortstop fouled a pitch off his right foot Friday but was diagnosed with just a bruise after X-rays and a CT scan come back negative. Crawford isn't in the lineup for Sunday's spring game but has gone through a full workout since he suffered the injury, and there's no concern about his availability for Opening Day.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: X-rays negative on foot

X-rays returned negative Saturday on Crawford's foot, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Crawford fouled a ball off his foot before Friday's Cactus League game against the Athletics, and was scratched from the lineup. The Mariners believed his absence to be precautionary, however, and the results seem to prove it. At this point, it appears very likely Crawford is ready to be the starting shortstop for Opening Day against the Guardians on Thursday.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Will undergo X-rays Saturday

Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters that Crawford will undergo X-rays on his foot before Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford fouled a ball of his foot before Friday's game, and was scratched from the lineup shortly before the start of the contest. The infielder was able to go through pregame workouts, but the Mariners won't take any chances with their starting shortstop. If Crawford winds up missing time to begin the regular season, Mason McCoy could find himself in the Opening Day starting lineup.

Crawford is out of the lineup Friday after fouling a ball off his foot, SShannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Crawford was scheduled to hit at the top of the otrder and play shortstop, but the infielder was scratched as a precaution. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day, but at this point there's little reason to think he won't be ready to go for the regular season.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Scratched from starting lineup

Crawford has been scratched from Friday's Cactus League game against the Athletics for undisclosed reasons, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports. Crawford has been dealing with a shoulder issue in the past few days, but there's no word as to why the infielder is out of the lineup. Mason McCoy will start in his place. There should be an update on why Crawford is out of action before the conclusion of Friday's game.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Five innings at short Monday

Crawford (shoulder) started at shortstop in Monday's Cactus League win over the Brewers and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being replaced by Mason McCoy in the top of the sixth inning. Crawford had last seen Cactus League action Thursday and most recently played shortstop March 10, as a "soggy" right shoulder had limited him to designated hitter duties since then. Crawford's ability to slot back in on defense Monday was in accordance with an aforementioned timeline, and it seems the veteran is on track to be at full strength for Opening Day.

The infielder will get at-bats on the back fields of Arizona, and he has a good chance to be back at shortstop for Seattle for Monday's Cactus League contest. • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Likely to return Monday

Mariners manager Scott Servais expects Crawford (shoulder) to return Monday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Crawford has been out of the lineup with what Servais described as a "soggy" shoulder, but the Mariners have said that the injury -- whatever it is -- isn't considered serious, and a return to the lineup Monday would seem to verify those claims. The shortstop's return becomes even more important for Seattle with Dylan Moore (oblique) likely to miss the first few weeks of the year.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Shoulder aching

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Monday that Crawford has a "soggy" right shoulder and will be limited to designated-hitter duties in Tuesday's Cactus League game versus the Royals, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Despite Servais' unique description of Crawford's injury, the shortstop isn't believed to be dealing with anything more than the typical soreness that often sets in for veteran players during the latter stages of spring training. The Mariners will take it easy on the 28-year-old by having him play DH on Tuesday, but he should be back in the field at shortstop before long to erase any concerns about his health heading into Opening Day.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Solid at plate this spring

Crawford is hitting .267 (3-for-15) with two RBI, three walks and three runs across seven Cactus League games thus far. Crawford has yet to provide an extra-base hit, but he's been a fairly constant presence on the basepaths and has only struck out twice. The veteran shortstop saw a 30-point drop in batting average last season after a career-best .273 figure in 2021, but that also came with a 45-point reduction in BABIP from .320 to .275. Additionally, Crawford lowered his strikeout rate to a career-low 13.3 percent and walked at his highest clip (11.3 percent) since his initial 23-game big-league cup of coffee back in 2017. An uptick in luck when putting the ball in play could see his average bounce back in 2023.
